(VIDEO) Leak-Proof Sippy Cups for Babies & Toddlers by Playtex®
Jul. 24, 2014

*This post is part of a sponsored campaign with Playtex Baby. However, all opinions are 100% my own.

As soon as Amelia turned 7 or 8 months, we decided that it was time to begin that transition from a bottle to sippy cup. Like Lucas, we knew we wanted her to be completely transitioned over by the time she turned 1 year old. But…ohmygoodness I didn’t know what we were in for. We must have purchased at least 5 or 6 different brands of sippy cups before finding one that did not spill. I’ll be honest, we started with the ones that were cute first. Yeah big mistake LOL!. Cute = spills it seems! Anyway, after many tries – we finally bought a Playtex Playtex TrainingTime™ cup. Finally! A cup that fit all the requirements!

  • Passed the Amelia test – CHECK!

  • Small enough to fit in her tiny hands – CHECK! These are contoured to make it easy for small baby hands to grip and they even hanse removable handles.

  • Zero leaking – CHECK! CHECK! CHECK!

So while I was recently sent a few Playtex cups for review – we purchased several of them before that. These are the ONLY sippy cups that we buy and use now!

Playtex AnyTime™ Spout Cup

Playtex AnyTime™ Spout Cup

Now, we have moved on to the Playtex AnyTime™ cups and the Playtex PlayTime™ cups, which are designed for older babies. We especially love the Playtex PlayTime™ cups because they are insulated.

Screen Shot 2014-07-24 at 1.53.45 PM

All of the Playtex cups are available with either a spout or straw depending on what your baby prefers. However, my favorite feature of ALL Playtex cups is the Twist ‘N Click Technology. There’s no guessing about whether the cup is secured correctly – once you hear the click – you KNOW it is closed tight. That of course equals NO LEAKS. If you happen to get one that does leak, then just take it back because all Playtex cups are backed by a 100% Spill Proof, Break Proof, Leak Proof Guarantee. That’s pretty cool!

Playtex sippy cups are available at Walmart, Target, Babies “R” Us, and national grocery retailers.

For more information, visit www.playtexbaby.com[1] or www.facebook.com/PlaytexBaby[2].

Playtex TrainingTime and AnyTime Cups Review
Jul. 24, 2014

I have received this product for review and I am being compensated as a member of the Playtex Mom Trust Program, all opinions are my own.

image

As you already know I am a Playtex Mom Trust Ambassador and I am loving it! I have used and owned so many Playtex products with my kids and have loved them. So naturally I was excited to try out some new Sippy Cups with my daughter. I received 2 types of sippy cups to review:

imagePlaytex TrainingTime Cups

“Playtex TrainingTime cups helps make the transition from bottles to sippy cups easy for little ones. Designed for children ages four months and up who are transitioning from bottles to sippy cups, TrainingTime cups promote independent drinking skills with unique features, like removable handles, soft silicone spout and more. The cup also features a contoured design, making it easy for little hands to hold and grasp.”-Playtex

image

My daughter loves this sippy cup. She especially loves the soft spout. She recently gave up the bottle habit Smile and so the soft spout provides a similar feel to a bottle nipple which makes it a great sippy cup to use to transition baby from bottle to sippy cup. The handles also make it easy for a baby to hold and are removable if your child prefers to use it without once they are older.

20140719_114523

These are available in soft spout or straw with removable handles (1 or 2)image

Playtex AnyTime Cups

“Playtex AnyTime cups are the perfect intermediate step as your child continues to grow and gain more skills and confidence. Designed for children nine months and up, the AnyTime non-insulated cups are versatile and contoured so that they are easy for little hands to hold and allows children to better control sipping.”-Playtex

We tried out the AnyTime spout cups.

image

My daughter also likes these sippys. They have an ergonomic design which makes them easier for little hands to hold. The spout is hard but she doesn’t mind that.

image

I also like that there are minimal parts and they remove easily for cleaning in the dishwasher.

image

These are available in spout, straw or spoutless.

Both types of cups feature the Twist ‘N Click Technology which I really love.

“With easier twisting and a louder audible clicking sound so you know it’s closed tight, Playtex cups are guaranteed to be 100% leak-proof and spill-proof and break-proof.* Just twist, click and go!”-Playtex

Being able to hear the click is a huge bonus for me, it is the worst when you think a sippy is closed and hand it to your toddler only to find out the hard way that it wasn’t :/ With these cups that doesn’t happen. They are simple and easy to close and you know they are closed.

image

I also love the fact that BOTH of these sippy cups are spill proof. They really are! My daughter put the AnyTime sippys to the test (setting them down upside down and walking away, throwing them, etc…) and we never had any leaks or spills!

image

We have been enjoying both styles of cups very much and I highly recommend them.

These cups are available in all major retail stores nationwide.

Making Summers Memorable with Your Kids #MomTrust
Jul. 22, 2014

A few years ago, I shared on my personal Facebook page a photo that said – We only have 18 short summers with our children. Make them count. I had a lot of friends comment that they were in disbelief when you think about it that way. Now, I’m hoping that my children would like to spend their summers with us when they are in their twenties and beyond, but I won’t kid myself. But when I think about it, I only have 12 summers left with my son and 17 summers with my twin girls. That’s why it’s important to me to make those summers count. Whether it’s going on a family trip, throwing a backyard camp-out or having a family movie night, I try to make these summer days and nights as memorable as possible.

Below are 5 fun things we have done this summer…with more to come!

Family Vacation

LegoLand Discovery Center

We actually spent most of June traveling. I never traveled much growing up so I have always wanted to make sure that my children do. I want them to look back and have great memories of summer vacations. In June, we visited Branson, Missouri, Louisville, Kentucky and Kansas City Missouri. We had fun spending the day at Silver Dollar City and Ride the Ducks in Branson, visiting family in Louisville and exploring the Legoland Discovery Center in Kansas City.

Silver Dollar City

Picnic in the Park

We’ve been to the park, we’ve brought snacks to the park but this summer I successfully brought all three kids to the park by myself for a picnic! We even had an actual picnic blanket and while friends sat at picnic tables, Hayden insisted on sitting on the grass. It was so much fun to see my three kids eating together and then playing together.

Picnic in the Park

Summer Under the Star Reading Party

All three of my kiddos love to read, so we had a fun Summer Reading Under the Stars Party[1], where we brought the outdoors indoor! We all had so much fun hanging out in the tent, eating snacks and reading books. The tent has stayed up ever since now and it’s become their little reading hideaway.

Reading Party

Exploring Our Town

We have pretty much done everything there is to do in St. Louis, but it’s always different with each age! We have had fun this summer taking my son to Star Wars Night at the St. Louis Cardinals game, the St. Louis Zoo, Grant’s Farm, museums and more!

Around St. Louis

Fun at Home

Some days, you just want to stay at home and relax. As much fun as I like being on the go with my kids, I also think we have a lot of fun and make memories just being at home. We have had fun play dates, spent time in the back yard, had fun movie nights and just played.

Fun at HomeWe definitely have had a fun-filled summer so far…and we still have less than a month before school starts. I’ll be thinking of more fun ways to make summer memorable and fun for my kids.

Summer Life With My Kids

Summer Life With My Kids
Jul. 22, 2014
This post is sponsored by Playtex.

Its hard to believe in 2 weeks my son will begin kindergarten. It seems like just yesterday I was heading to the hospital to become a mom. Now I am watching him grow up and become an amazing little man who is full of curiosity and who loves his family, especially his baby sister.

Beach Time

This summer has been amazing! We started off with a visit from my parents and a trip to Lake Michigan. We sat on the beach and ate lunch and just enjoyed each others company. It was a beautiful day!

Daddy and Jonah Beach

Sometimes life give you unexpected trips and this summer was no exception. The kids and I took a last minute trip home to Idaho to go camping with my family. While it isn’t our first time to camp, it was Jonah’s and Caroline’s first time to go fishing. My parents took them out on their awesome fold-up boat. Boat Ride Caroline Boat Little Fisherman

And while the fish weren’t biting, the kids loved going out and trying to catch them! Jonah won the award for the largest piece of “sea weed” caught! He was very proud of it. We had a lot of fun sitting around the fire, making s’mores and spending time with our family.

Zoo

We have been keeping busy with trips to the zoo, playing in the park, going to the gym, and swimming… a lot of swimming at our neighborhood pool. We have had our cousins come over spend the night and jump hand-in-hand into the pool together!

Swimming Fun The fun hasn’t stopped yet. Before school starts in two weeks (gulp!) we will be visiting a goat farm in St. Louis. I am really excited for the trip. The kids and I love animals and getting up and close to some is going to be exciting. When we get back we will have to start getting ready to go back to school. I start back on the 30th and Jonah starts on the 1st. This summer flew by, but we will always have the memories and pictures. I am going to need a lot of support in the coming weeks because I am having a hard time with my little guy starting school. Luckily there are a lot of resources out there to help. My friends have been great, but most haven’t sent a kid to school yet. I have gotten a lot of support from fellow blogger and loved reading some of their stories on the Playtex Baby Mom Trust Facebook page[1]. This site features some great stories from moms who are seasoned pros as well as brand new moms. There is something for everyone! I am a contributor for the site so I would love for you to stop by and visit!

Ok… I am back to breathing practice for the next couple of weeks. Wish me luck!

What summer activities have you done with your kids this summer? Do you have any fun trips planned?

10 Summer Activities for Families & Kids
Jul. 16, 2014

Here in Georgia, the kids go back to school the first week of August, which means that there are only 2.5 weeks left of summer break for Lucas. I can’t believe it’s coming to an end so soon. So as Lucas’ summer break is soon coming to a close, we are grasping on to these last couple of weeks and trying to soak in as much sun, laughter, cuddles, and quality time together as possible. I put together a list of some of the things that we are hoping to do and thought I’d share in case it inspires you too!

Mom Tip General #5

1. Head to the park with a blanket, yummy snacks, and a pile of books to read together. While you’re there, make sure to feed the ducks and play on the playground together!

2. Go to Starbucks on a (coffee-free/decaf) “coffee date”. Lucas loves doing this with me! I order him one of the crema coffee-free Frapuccinos and a small treat and we just sit and talk. LOVE.

3. Put on your swimsuit (yes – YOU too!) and head to the local splash park.

4. Make your own ice cream and then make ice cream sandwiches or sundaes!

5. Have a backyard campfire and of course – this means roasting marshmallows and making s’mores!

6. Have an epic water balloon fight.

7. Catch fireflies in a jar and of course – let them go at the end of the night.

8. Visit the beach and go shelling.

9. Go to an outdoor movie in your community.

10. Enjoy those in between, quiet moments with lots of hugs and kisses. Connect with one another.

Summer, Summer, Summertime!
Summer, Summer, Summertime!

Playtex Baby Disclosure

Summer, summer, summertime. Time to sit back and unwind. It’s summertime! Will Smith sang those lyrics in 1991, before he was an Academy Award winner and an international household name. Back then, I rapped along and looked forward to the last school bell ringing, which meant no more teachers and no more books. I was heading to high school and eager to experience all that life had to offer. I dreamed of going to college and becoming a television reporter. But over the next few months that followed, I attended a college prep program during the week and enjoyed the hot summer sun at the pool on the weekend. I couldn’t wait to grow up, but now that I’m adult, I miss that time in my life. I can’t go back, although I did drank out of the Fountain of Youth in Florida once. (By the way, it tasted like spring water and didn’t stop the hands of time). What I can do is remind myself that time flies and that I must enjoy everyday to the fullest. That’s my advice to other first time moms in my role on the Playtex Baby Mom Trust Panel.

So in the summer, I make an extra effort to stop and smell the roses. I also remember why the season is most memorable to me. On July 27, 2011, I gave birth to my daughter.

She has since celebrated two birthdays.

Caterpillar Party

Election Birthday Party

And this weekend, we’ll put one more candle on her cake. A princess cupcake cake to be exact. She ordered it herself from my sister’s baking business. It doesn’t match mommy’s Doc McStuffins theme, but she’s getting older and independent. If that’s her birthday wish, I’ll grant it!

Before summer even ends, she’ll start school, albeit, the three-year-old class, but preschool nonetheless. Instead of tearing up and trying to avoid the inevitable, we’ll soak up the sun, make more memories and explore the city together. So far, we went to the zoo, the science center, the children’s museum, the water park and the playground more times than I can count. One thing I won’t count–the number of days left until the sun sets and the snow falls.

Hey DFTM fam–How are you spending your summer with your little one?

Our Big Summer Of Fun

Our Big Summer Of Fun
Jul. 14, 2014

18 summers. I will never forget these words from the 2011 Disney Social Media conference[1].

“Our job as parents is to create memories. You can only do that by being together. You only have 18 summers with your kids. Make memories. Life is short,” Amy Foster, Director of Disney Destinations and Consumer Insight.

It became my rallying cry. My constant reminder to make the most of every day especially summers with my daughters. I must enjoy every moment because childhood doesn’t last forever[2].

Park Slide
A slight panic set in the other day when I realized that we now officially have more summer behind us than we do ahead of us. Where did summer go, and what happened to all of those things I planned to do?

But then I sat down to write this post about our summer as part of the Playtex Mom Trust[3] I made a list. I began to write down what we have done this summer. The list grew and grew, and as the list grew I realized that this summer I have done my job. We have created lots of memories in the past few months lots.

Minnie Mouse Shirts Outfits
Even though summer started in May, our big fun started in April. In just a few short months we have done all of the following:
  • We flew cross-country to take the girls to Disneyland for the first time
  • My girls were flower girls in my cousin’s wedding
  • We took our first road trip to Gulf County, Florida[4]
  • We had a last-day-of-school pool party (after a bus stop ambush[5])
  • We took our second road trip to Savannah, Georgia[6] for another wedding
  • We went to Coco Beach on Florida’s Space Coast
  • We went to the zoo, and feed the giraffes
  • We went to the Magic Kingdom with friends twice
  • We had a playdate at the park with lots of friends
  • We had a staycation at Bonnet Creek[7] and visited Hollywood Studios
  • We went to St. Petersburg Beach with the whole family for the 4th of July
  • We had a summer pool party
  • K rode in a race car[8]
  • We went back to Hollywood Studios for Frozen Summer
  • My oldest went to four day camps
  • My littlest is trying to potty train
  • We baked star cookies
  • We made lots of crafts
  • And many more memories like movies, playdates, the ice cream truck and more…
Bonnet Creek Lazy River Tube
Whew! So what’s left in these last few weeks of summer?

We have been invited to two birthday parties, cousins from both sides of the family are coming for visits, we have family pictures scheduled, there are still crafts to be made and I would like to visit Weeki Wachee Springs to see the mermaids before summer ends. Not to mention that there is lots of exciting back-to-school shopping to be done and meet the teacher events for BOTH of my daughters.

That’s right, next month I am sending my baby to preschool! (Hold me!)

The Suburban Mom
Somehow when I think about this summer it feels like it rushed by and we didn’t get a chance to do anything. But the reality is that it rushed by because we were busy doing so much!

18 summers, and this year we’ve done a good job.

Summertime Fun & Travel #MomTrust @PlaytexBaby
Jul. 14, 2014

We’ve been having one of the best summers, with activities every weekend, and daily days at the park. We’ve been to the aquarium, museums, jumped on trampolines, dined at great restaurants, and so much more. We made s’mores, created art on our sidewalks, and had tickle wars, and I’m grateful there is still plenty of summer left to enjoy before my oldest son starts “real” school (five already! how did that happen?? his fifth year of life already!)

June and July went by in a blur, and so far we….

motts-for-tots-5
read dad playing with sons-2

playing at bounce trampoline-6

s'mores-2

beautiful fish in aquarium-2

bounce house-3

and it’s been so much fun :)

As a mom, as long as I have little juice boxes and snack containers, and keep my schedule organized, I’m able to keep the fun going. If I don’t, uh oh…hungry and thirsty kidlets, or missed appointments and late starts. I’m not a born organized mom, so I depend on to do lists and reminder alarms on my phone for everything. Thank goodness for gadgets and technology!

We are planning a weekend trip later this month into Manhattan for a weekend of touring our favorite city in the world, and until then, it’s more picnics and pirate treasure hunts. I’m exhausted, but the good kind of exhausted :) I love[1] connecting with other parents and sharing stories and tips as well, or simply getting more ideas on how to safely have family fun. You can find out how other parents are doing, share tips and support and more at Playtex Baby Mom Trust on facebook[2]!…I’m a contributor and will be sharing reviews and mommy moments, so come by, read, and share.

Now I just have to start organizing all those photos for the photo books…that will take me all autumn to do! How are you enjoying your summer? Any trips or summer fun with the family planned or happening already?

Know someone else who might enjoy this post? Feel free to share!

I feel so very fortunate that I get to spend my days watching my kids grow. When MacKay and I made the move from Tampa to Manhattan that was one of our main goals. We knew that it would take major sacrifice for both of us, but being able to be a stay-at-home mom was a top priority no matter what we had to lose with it.

Now nearly five years into it, I can tell you that with all of the sacrifices and challenges along the way, there are so many more moments filled with adventure, firsts, and discoveries. I’ve been there for the first words, first steps, first day of school. I’ve watched as the magic of New York City revealed itself during a daily adventure around the city. Or as they saw the garbage man come and pick up the trash from our driveway for the very first time (it was super exciting for these city girls.)

Just last week, Macks discovered the his little feet are so much fun to play with. Two weeks ago I watched as he rolled over for the very first time. He’s noticed that if you put things in front of him, he can quickly grab it and bring it to his mouth.

I cannot imagine doing anything better with my life than what I get to do every single day with my three children as I watch them flourish. I’m so excited to be on this journey with then as they go through life making more discoveries on their own.

A couple of weeks ago I shared with you the Playtex Beginnings Imagined program.[1] From the very first moment you find out you’re going to be a parent you dream about what your child could become. Playtex is helping parents capture those hopes and dreams through the Beginnings Imagined program, an opportunity to win a bespoke illustration and story of what their little one could become and be entered to win a grand prize of a $5,000 scholarship to help them fulfill their dreams.

Visit imagined.playtexbaby.com[2] answer a few short questions about your little one and submit an image for your chance to win a custom illustration by children’s book author and illustrator, Julie Olson. There is a winner everyday! All illustration winners will then be entered for a grand prize drawing of a $5,000 scholarship.

The contest will run from June 3, 2014 to July 1, 2014.

{Disclosure: I am working with Playtex as a proud member of the Playtex Baby Mom Trust program, a virtual network where moms can find common ground and support each other through sharing stories, tips, product reviews, insights and unique experiences of motherhood. Reliving the Memories ~ Playtex Beginnings Imagined Program

Reliving the Memories ~ Playtex Beginnings Imagined Program
Jun. 24, 2014
This post is sponsored by Playtex. All opinions are 100% mine!

Something that experienced parents forget to tell new parents is to slow down and make sure your taking it all in. We have all heard that time flies, or that the kids will grow up before you know it, but until you experience it you don’t really understand. I remember being so concerned that I was doing everything right with my son that sometimes I forgot to enjoy the ride. He turned into a boy before I knew what hit me. I was okay with that because I knew eventually he would have another sibling and I was going to be able to experience babyhood again.

Now what am I going to do? Caroline is already 2 and headed straight for her teen years (for real, you should see the attitude she has been displaying the past couple of weeks). I know that there will not be any more babies in my future, so what is a mom to do?

I document. In addition to writing about our life on this little blog, I take a gazillion pictures. Baby Months 1-6

I never want to forget what she looked like every single month she was born. I didn’t do a monthly photo shoot with my son and I regret it. I have pictures of him every month but there is something to wearing the same outfit and seeing how you have grown . I will cherish these always!

I also take short little videos. I don’t know if you remember this or not:

I am still amazed and excited that I have that to remember her first time she rolled over.

My advice to parents is while you may be to exhausted to appreciate the small moments, be sure to document everything. When you finally get out of the new parents haze that engulfs us all at the beginning you can relive the memories.

The Playtex Beginnings Imagined Program is hosting a giveaway where you will have a chance to capture your child in a hand drawn, custom illustration that will capture their personality. My daughter’s is going into her baby book so she can see what her favorite things were when she was 2!

Caroline3

Moms and dads are invited to visit imagined.playtexbaby.com[1] where they will be asked to answer a few short questions about their child and submit an image for their chance to win a custom illustration by children’s book author and illustrator, Julie Olson (like Caroline’s above). All illustration winners will then be entered for a grand prize drawing of a $5,000 scholarship. The contest will run from June 3, 2014 to July 1, 2014.

What things do you do to capture your memories of your children?

Because Childhood Doesn’t Last Forever…
Jun. 23, 2014

Motherhood is a crazy gig. I look at my girls and I dream of what they will someday become. I can’t wait for them to get old enough to do various things. But all the while, my heart aches I don’t want them to get bigger. Oh that I could keep them small forever.

Don’t get me wrong, young is hard. Especially those first few months. But even as I am deep in the throes of potty training, I already miss diapering my babes. How can my baby already be two and half years old? She will be headed off to pre-school in the fall. (Hold me.)

Toddler Pool
The other day, she broke my heart when she corrected me. Apparently, it is no longer “ta-toe” (silly mom) it is Playdoh.

Because I can’t keep them little forever, there are a few things I never want to forget.

  1. The way she called Playdoh “ta-toe.”
  2. The way she asks me to “carry me like a baby” before bed.
  3. The way ending credits are an invitation to a spontaneous dance party. Every time.
  4. The way she calls Twinkle, Twinkle “Ap-pa-pa” (as in “up above the world so high”).
  5. The way every family member must sing “Ap-pa-pa” to her before she sleeps.
  6. The way she runs to get her stool to “help” me cook.
  7. The way she wants to, and believes she can do, anything big sister does.
  8. Her great love for all things Toy Story.
  9. Her great love for Kristoff (Frozen).
  10. Those curls.
  11. Her love for “Abacado” (avocado/guacamole).
  12. Her sweet hugs and kisses.
  13. The way she always wakes with a paci-stuffed smile.
  14. Her out-of-the-blue “we go to Disney today?” requests.
  15. The way “HIJK” is pronounced “HIKK” when she sings her ABCs.
  16. The way she first, middle and last names her big sister when she is mad.

As I feel time slipping through my fingers[1], I do my best to cherish every little moment. And capture every moment. Perhaps that is why my camera is like another appendage, and I have gigs and gigs of photos to back up each month.

Because I HAVE to remember that smile.

OshKosh B'gosh Overalls Denim
I have photos galore, but when I was offered the opportunity to receive a hand-drawn illustration through the Playtex Mom Trust I was giddy! Another way to preserve this moment in time. And through Playtex Baby’s Beginnings Imagined sweepstakes[2] you have the opportunity to win an illustration of your child too.

Playtex knows babies, and we know every baby is unique. We want to help parents capture their child’s one-of-a-kind personality with a keepsake that they can treasure forever. That’s why we’ve created the Beginnings Imagined Sweepstakes. If you win, accomplished artist Julie Olson will create an amazing, hand-illustrated tale of who your baby is today and who he or she may become.

In addition to the weekly drawing for a one-of-a-kind illustration, everyone who enters the Beginnings Imagined sweepstakes is also entered for the grand prize of a $5,000 scholarship to help their child discover who they will be come one day.

You only have until July 1 to enter, so visit the Playtex Baby’s Beginnings Imagined sweepstakes[3] today.

This is my Beginnings Imagined illustration.

Introducing the Playtex Baby Beginnings Imagined Program: Win a Custom Illustration! #MomTrust
Jun. 05, 2014

Time is going by so quickly. It’s hard to imagine that my son will be going into 1st grade this fall and that my girls are already 15 months old and walking all over the house – they are TODDLERS now! It really can seem like just yesterday that I was pregnant and dreaming about Olivia and Evie and how they would be. Would their personalities be similar or completely different? Would they look like me or my husband?

olivia and evie sleeping

15 month later, we can see that Olivia looks exactly like my husband and Hayden and Evie looks like….well, we aren’t sure! Their personalities are completely different and I love seeing them grow into these little people with their own likes and dislikes. As time goes by so quickly, I’m thankful for this blog so I can document their life in pictures and words.

Olivia and Evie Osh Kosh

All parents dream about what your child could become and Playtex is helping parents capture those hopes and dreams through the Beginnings Imagined program, where parents have the opportunity to win a bespoke illustration and story of what their little one could become and be entered to win a grand prize of a $5,000 scholarship to help them fulfill their dreams.

I was so excited when children’s book author and illustrator, Julie Olson took a picture of Olivia and Evie along with some facts about their personalities and created this gorgeous keepsake that we will treasure forever.

OliviaEvie9-10

I’ll always treasure this picture for capturing this special time in their life!

Now through July1st, moms and dads are invited to visit imagined.playtexbaby.com[1] where they will be asked to answer a few short questions about their child and submit an image for their chance to win a custom illustration by children’s book author and illustrator, Julie Olson. All illustration winners will then be entered for a grand prize drawing of a $5,000 scholarship.

Playtex Baby is always right there with me and my family as my kids grow. I’m so excited for their new Beginnings Imagined program and I hope you are too!

Playtex Beginnings Imagined program
Jun. 05, 2014

I dreamed of being a parent long before I became one. When I became pregnant with my son, I was so excited to dream about who my little guy was going to grow up to be. My daughter shares his stubbornness, but also his curiosity. They can be the best of friends, or they can fight like cats and dogs. I have a lot of fun watching them interact. Being a mom is even more special than I could have imagined and that is why I am honored to partner with Playtex as they launch their Playtex Beginnings Imagined program.

From the very first moment you find out you’re going to be a parent you dream about what your child could become. Playtex is helping parents capture those hopes and dreams through the Beginnings Imagined program, an opportunity to win a bespoke illustration and story of what their little one could become and be entered to win a grand prize of a $5,000 scholarship to help them fulfill their dreams.

I recently received my daughter’s illustration from Julie Olson and it couldn’t be more adorable:

I was asked to send in a picture and answer a few questions about my daughters personality. She caught onto everything!

Here is the photo I sent in:

When I Grow Up, I Want to Be…
When I Grow Up, I Want to Be…

Dear Diary,

As a child, I would push a dining room chair into the living room to build a makeshift television set. I would then instruct my cousins to sit on the white couch–the one we weren’t allowed to sit on in our play clothes, and I would interview them about their lives. I pretended to be Oprah Winfrey, and they spun tales about being celebrities and CEOs. I later went on to become the features editor of my high school newspaper and a teen talk show host at a popular radio station. My parents supported my journalism dream and sent me to Michigan State University. Upon graduation, I worked as a producer and reporter at television stations throughout the U.S. and then headed overseas to host a show in the Cayman Islands.

Television Reporter

My parents knew what career path I would take very early on. They even nicknamed me motor mouth and paid me to be quiet in the car. My daughter inherited my gift of gab. She also got rhythm–but most likely from her father, since I have two left feet. I wonder if she will grow up to be a writer like her mom, an engineer like her dad or perhaps a dancer.

From the very first moment I found out I was going to be a parent, I dreamed about what my child could become. Recently, Playtex Baby[1] helped me capture those hopes and dreams through the Beginnings Imagined[2] program, which captures your child’s image and personality. .I received a custom illustration and story of what Caitlynn could be when she grows up. I just answered a few simple questions, and got a glimpse into Caitlynn’s future!

CaitlynnYou can also win an illustration and be entered to win a grand prize of a $5,000 scholarship to help your child fulfill his/her dreams. Just like Playtex Baby on Facebook and enter the contest.[3] website. You’ll be promoted to complete a short questionnaire about your child and submit an image for a chance to win a custom illustration by children’s book author and illustrator, Julie Olson. Two of my favorite celebrity moms, Tia and Tamera, also got their kids captured on canvas. Check out their experience and find out more about the promotion by watching the video below.

The contest runs from June 3, 2014 to July 1, 2014. Meanwhile, tell me what you hope you’ll child will become when he/she grows up in the comment box below.

Beginnings Imagined – Get Your Own Custom Illustration!
Jun. 04, 2014

Disclosure 1

From the moment that I was pregnant with Lucas, I imagined what he would look like. What he would sound like. What his favorite food or color or toy would be. Would he love sports or art or science?

With my baby boy, Lucas

With my baby boy, Lucas

It was the same way with Amelia. Would she have mine and Lucas’ brown eyes or Mike’s blue eyes? Would she love to swim or to dance or to play sports?

With my baby girl, Amelia

With my baby girl, Amelia

I imagine it is the same with all parents. We love our babies before they even take their first breath outside of the womb. And then they are born and they begin to develop these big personalities in these tiny bodies. Lucas was always content and calm. He rarely cried and when he did – all we had to do was make him laugh and all of his tears would be forgotten. Before he could talk, he had a sense of humor. The same silly sense of humor he has today.

10269397_10152329818447870_538371448920738690_n

Amelia is vibrant and joyful all.the.time. This sweet baby girl only sees the beauty in the world. Everywhere we go – both adults and children – fall in love with her.

As part of the Playtex Mom Trust, I was given the opportunity to capture the essence of Amelia through a custom illustration by children’s book author and illustrator – Julie Olson. All I did was provide a picture of Amelia (the one below) and answered a few questions about her personality.

1601289_10152112794237870_855024866_n

Here is the result! It honestly made me tear up because it so beautifully represents my baby girl.

Amelia

It’s such a lovely piece that we will treasure forever!

Win A Custom Illustration Of Your Little One
Jun. 04, 2014

This morning, I woke up to a silent house. Silence. Sissy had her first sleepover at Mimi’s house with her big sister, and for the first time in two and half years I had a kid-free morning. I should have been excited, but I was sad and nostalgic. This was a big step for my baby girl, it means she is growing up. I blinked, and she isn’t a baby any more.

If I could, I would keep my girls exactly as they are right now forever. Ages six and two, they a perfect. But it won’t last, they have to grow up. So I take pictures and try to preserve these memories every chance I get.

So when I was given the opportunity through the Playtex Baby Mom’s Trust to have a hand-drawn illustration of my baby girl created as part of the Beginnings Imagined program, I jumped at the chance. I provided a photo of Sissy and answered a few questions about her personality. A few weeks later I received an illustration of my baby girl complete with a description of her.

Playtex Baby Beginnings Imagined
The illustrator captured her perfectly. It is such a special treasure for her memory box that will always preserve the spunky toddler that she is.

Wouldn’t you like to have an illustration of your little one? Through Playtex Baby’s Beginnings Imagined sweepstakes you have the opportunity to win an illustration of your child!

In case you are curious, this is the photo I submitted for my illustration.

Do you ever think about the characteristics that your little one has now and imagine what they will turn into as he grows up? My littlest – J.C. – is so jubilant and active. I like to imagine that he’ll be in some active career – maybe a firefighter, an athlete, a circus performer?! But above all – I imagine (and hope) he’ll still be jubilant, happy, and snuggly, too.

When I Grow Up…. Beginnings Imagined {Giveaway}
Jun. 04, 2014

When a child is born, a world of potential is also. It’s amazing how far mankind has come, and how really anything that anyone can imagine is actually possible. Who would have thought, while watching the Captain communicate and look up anything he wanted via a pad-like gadget on Star Trek just fifteen very short years ago, that today we’d all be doing it with tablets?

Anything is possible. And with each new generation, more is becoming a reality, and it’s amazing. I want my sons to become whatever they want to be when they grow up. I am prepared to be the mother of the first Captain of the Star Ship Enterprise, or a man that farms and lives a simple life, as long as he is happy. They have as yet to express any interest in anything specific they’d like to be when they grow up, but along the way, each step of the way, as their minds wander and explore, I’ll be supporting them, letting them know that when it comes to learning, discovery, and creating, there are no limits.

Playtex is introducing Beginnings Imagined, and I’m so excited to help introduce it! Popular children’s illustrator Julie Olson created a work of art of our little one, Spanky (we are Little Rascal fans), that we love[1]:

Macks5

When I was 15 weeks pregnant with Macks, MacKay and I sat impatiently in the ultrasound room to find out the sex of our third child. MacKay was confident it was going to be a boy and deep down I prayed that I would be blessed with a son.

As the technician rubbed the ultrasound wand over my belly she asked, “Do you want to know the sex?” “Of course,” MacKay and I both shouted. We don’t have a whole lot of patience when it comes to this sort of thing. “It’s a boy,” she said. My eyes swelled with tears as I asked her over and over again if she was sure. After two girls I thought that is all my body was capable of producing. But sure enough, after showing me undeniable proof on the ultrasound machine, I was able to see my beautiful baby boy.

“You know I’m going to go crazy with this.” MacKay said as we walked out of the ultrasound room. “With what?” I asked. “This whole boy thing. Knicks gear, baseball hats, everything sports related.” You could hear the excitement in his voice as he thought about his future with our son.

While I wasn’t thinking sports, I was wondering what life would be like as a mom of a boy. I was so immersed in princesses and pinks and tutus that I had no idea where to even begin with a little guy of my own. But when reality hit and I welcomed Macks into my arms it was better than I ever imagined.

At nearly four months, he is truly a mama’s boy. Long after he has gone to bed each night, I just sit and stare at him and quietly thank him for being such a wonderful blessing in my life. I tell him about my hopes and dreams for what he becomes and how much he has already fulfilled so much in my life.

It’s these hopes and dreams that I have for Macks that Playtex is helping capture through the Beginnings Imagined program. The program is an opportunity to win a bespoke illustration and story of what your little one could become and be entered to win a grand prize of a $5,000 scholarship to help them fulfill their dreams.

I am beyond excited to share Macks’ illustration with you and I’m even more excited to be able to give one lucky reader a custom illustration of their own. Enter by filling out the form below.

Let Your Baby Decide With The New Playtex Nipple Variety Pack ~ Giveaway

Let Your Baby Decide With The New Playtex Nipple Variety Pack ~ Giveaway
Jun. 02, 2014

There are many crucial decisions moms make during their child’s life. Some are huge and monumental, while others only seem like they are huge and monumental at the time. During that first year when new decisions face moms around every corner, assistance in making at least a few of those decisions easier is a welcome relief.

I have blogged previously about my seemingly monumental decision to choose the right nipples and bottles[1] for my daughter as I stood in front of a wall of choices while registering for my firstborn. The simple task of choosing a bottle and nipple to register for quickly became so overwhelming that I nearly had a panic attack right there in the store.

There were so many options to choose from. I had read about nipple confusion for babies, and as I stood there I realized I had nipple confusion trying to make the best decision for my daughter.

On that day, I decided to skip registering for nipples altogether. Ultimately I enlisted the help of a veteran mom who calmed me down and helped me narrow down the selection. (Whew!)

But oh how I would have liked the new Playtex Nipple Variety Pack that I was introduced to through the Playtex Mom Trust Program[2]. I mean – genius!

Playtex Baby Nipple Variety Pack
The Playtex Nipple Variety Pack helps mom skip the trial and error process to give her baby the best feeding right from the start by offering four BPA-free nipples in different shapes and sizes to match baby’s unique preferences. With a wide range of nipples, all in one convenient package, moms can mix and match Playtex bottles and nipples for the perfect infant feeding combination.

Don’t guess; buy one package that has four types of silicone nipples to try! The Playtex Nipple Variety Pack includes:

  • Playtex NaturaLatch Nipple – With a standard surface area to mimic average nipple sizes, this nipple is most like mothers.
  • Playtex Breastlike Nipple – Slope of area around nipple mimics the breast.
  • Playtex Fullsized Nipple – Designed for wider mouths, the shape of the nipple mimics large size nipples.
  • Playtex Angled Nipple -The nipple’s angled design promotes semi-upright feeding.

All Playtex Nipple Variety Packs are available in slow, medium and fast flow and are compatible with Playtex VentAire and Playtex Nurser with Drop-Ins Liners bottles.

It’s been nearly seven years since I first stood in front of a wall of bottles and nipples fearing this seemingly huge task of choosing what was right for my baby. While we are past that stage, I am jealous of other moms who can avoid at least this seemingly huge decision by simply picking up a variety pack.

Unfortunately Playtex can’t make a variety pack for all of the decisions that lie ahead, but at least this decision can be made easily – get the variety pack and let baby decide what she/he likes best.

Playtex Nipple Variety Pack is available at Walmart, Target and Babies ‘R Us for a suggested retail price of $7.99.

Find What is Right for your Baby with Playtex’s Nipple Variety Pack {Giveaway}
Jun. 02, 2014

When Hayden was born, we did a combination of breastfeeding and bottle feeding. I had no idea how lucky I was because he liked the very first bottles that we gave him and we never had to go through the frustration of switching bottle brands and nipple types. However, when Olivia and Evie were born…..that was a different story! Again, I did a combination of breastfeeding and bottle feeding but the girls did not like the first bottle brand that I gave them.

We weaned Olivia and Evie off the bottle a few months ago but when they were first born, we actually struggled for a few months to find the right nipple and for that reason, I wish we had been able to try out Playtex’s new Nipple Variety Pack. This is a brilliant product for new moms and is the first of its kind. The The Playtex Nipple Variety Pack features four BPA-free nipples in different shapes and sizes to match baby’s unique preferences.

Playtex Nipple Variety Pack

This one package will let moms mix and match Playtex bottles and nipples for the perfect infant feeding combination. The Playtex Nipple Variety Pack Includes:

Playtex NaturaLatch Nipple

- With a standard surface area to mimic average nipple sizes, this nipple is most like mothers.

Playtex Breastlike Nipple

- Slope of area around nipple mimics the breast.

Playtex Fullsized Nipple

- Designed for wider mouths, the shape of the nipple mimics large size nipples.

Playtex Angled Nipple

- The nipple’s angled design promotes semi-upright feeding.

You’ll find the Playtex Nipple Variety Pack at Walmart, Target and Babies ‘R Us for a suggested retail price of $7.99.

If you’re looking for a baby shower gift, this would be perfect to include with a variety of Playtex bottles. Any new mom {or not so new mom!} would love this! Playtex Nipples

Breastfeeding didn’t work out very well for me. With my son, he would never latch and he was losing weight fast, so I pumped and then fed him via a bottle. My daughter latched very well and fed for a few weeks without issue and then suddenly I was not producing enough milk for her. It was extremely frustrating. Finding the perfect bottle to use for my kids was a challenge, I didn’t realize how important the choice of silicone nipples for the bottles could be. That is why Playtex has a new Nipple Variety Pack.

Playtex

The variety pack includes 4 distinct silicone nipples with different characteristics such as Fullsized, Breastlike, Angled, and Natrualatch. Many times moms think that babies are rejecting a bottle when really they could be rejecting a nipple, especially when they are being supplemented and still feed from the breast. Having a variety pack is a great way to figure out if it is the bottle or the nipple that they are rejecting.

Playtex Nipple box

All four of the silicone nipples work with Playtex bottles making this the perfect gift for a new mom. I wish I had this when I had bottle fed babies! With so many choices, creating a baby registry can be daunting, putting a package of these on your list can help ensure you have the nipple that your baby loves best. Adding this variety pack with a package of bottles is a wonderful baby gift for any expecting mom.

Good News… Playtex wants to give a Nipple Variety Pack away to 5 lucky winners!

You know those babies that are set out to humble you in the parenting arena? Yeah, Macks is one of them. This little boy is proving to do things differently than his sisters did. Some might call it high-maitenanced, I just think he likes a little bit of extra love. Everything that I used to think that I had figured out, Macks reminds me that I don’t.

Our newest parenting challenge is trying to get Macks to take a bottle. We introduced the bottle around four weeks and I started with the bottles that Harlan and Avery used and had no problem with. Of course, Macks didn’t like them so I went online that night and ordered one of nearly every kind of bottle on the market. We don’t use bottles that often, but I wanted to make sure that when he does take one that he is comfortable with it.

Of course trying out every single bottle on the market to see which one he preferred was both expensive and time consuming. I wasted a lot of milk because he would flat out refuse to take a bottle. And for any nursing mom that pumps, you know that breast milk is liquid gold.

For those of you who are dealing with a similar situation with your little one, skip the hassle that I went through with Macks, and try the new Playtex Nipple Variety Pack[1]. This is such a genius idea that Playtex has come up with. Each package includes four different kinds of Playtex nipples to see which your baby prefers. A lot of babies might change preference as they grow, theses nipples also fit all Playtex bottles so you can easily switch them out. The Nipple Variety Pack[2] includes a Breastlike Shape, Naturalatch, Fullsized, and Angled nipples. They all look completely different so you are sure to find one that your little one prefers.

Now I just wish that Macks would pick his preference so that we can kick this picky bottle phase to the curb!

Great news! If your little one is just like Macks, you have a chance to win one of five Nipple Variety Packs of your own! Just fill out the form below to enter.

NEW by Playtex! Nipple Variety Pack – Slow & Medium Flow
Jun. 02, 2014

Disclosure 1

Amelia has just recently begun her transition from bottles to sippy cups. She still has one bedtime bottle though. Anyhow, from newborn to the present – we have had to change nipple sizes several times on her bottles. Each of those times we had to go out and find the right ones, etc! That’s why I think it’s pretty smart that Playtex recently introduced the Nipple Variety Pack[1], which comes with four different types of nipples – both slow and medium flow. They are perfect to purchase in the beginning and allow to grow with your child! They will work with any of the Playtex bottles – the disposable drop-ins or the traditional reusable bottles.

Find The Right Fit For Your Baby, Right From The Beginning
By Penelope’s Oasis|Jun. 02, 2014|0 comment
Find The Right Fit For Your Baby, Right From The Beginning
Jun. 02, 2014

One of the more challenging aspects of bottle feeding a baby is finding one that your baby will take to. You want something that mimics your own breast if your baby was nursed, so the transition is more comfortable, but we are all different, and so are our babies. For this reason, Playtex’s innovative new product, the Nipple Variety Pack, can be one of the best solutions for this frustrating problem.

The Playtex Nipple Variety Pack comes with four BPA free silicone nipples with distinct shapes, and all can be used with the Playtex Nurser and VentAire wide bottles. The four varieties include a breast-like shape, NaturalLatch, full-size with a wider mouth, and angled for upright feedings, and are available in various flow rates for various stages.

playtex variety pack

When you have the right bottle nipple, you know right from the start whether your child is rejecting the bottle, or actually just rejecting an uncomfortable nipple, and you can mix and match to make sure your baby is as happy and comfortable while feeding as possible.

I actually never bottle fed my sons, and the reason is because both hated the bottle. The truth is, I don’t know that the problem wasn’t just a wrong fit, because most babies find bottle feeding comforting if mom isn’t around, and the Playtex Nipple Variety pack wasn’t available a few years ago when I was struggling trying to figure out how to encourage my sons to bottle feed. It was an expensive process to try to find the right feeding system, but now it’s easier and more affordable. The Playtex Nipple Variety Pack can help take the confusion out of finding the right fit for your baby.

Avoid Being Crazy Exhausted When You Ditch Diapers
Avoid Being Crazy Exhausted When You Ditch Diapers

What Does the Number 5, 475Mean to Moms- (2)

Playtex Baby Disclosure

Let’s play a guessing game. 5,475. Is that the number of times I told my little love bug how much I loved her when we cuddled on the couch? The number of bedtime stories I recited? Or the number of diapers I changed in 2 ½ years?

What Does the Number 5, 475Mean to Moms- (1)

If you guessed C, you are correct. If you change your child six times a day, you will go through 5,475 diapers in 2 ½ years. I lost a lot of post-pregnancy weight, because I ran the dirty diapers outside to the trashcans at least twice a day. Sometimes I forgot to get dressed. Once, the mailman spotted me in my pajamas. He thought I was my sister, so I played along! On another day, the next-door neighbor’s dog knocked over the garbage and teepeed the backyard with diapers. And guess who cleaned it up? Let’s just say it wasn’t the black lab.

Now, that my daughter is about two thirds potty trained, my marathon training is coming to a close. No more darted through the driveway. We can see the finish line. So, when my friend Stephanie over at When Crazy Meets Exhaustion[1], who is also training her 3-year-old daughter, had a baby, I had to send her a Diaper Genie Elite Diaper Disposal System[2] with a new odor absorbent Carbon Filter. The Ultimate Odor Lock system features a 7-layer refill bag, double clamp and anti-microbial pail, now with activated carbon filter to absorb and lock in strong diaper odors. I wish someone sent one to me! I thought Stephanie would be the perfect person to do the review, since she is pretty funny. And if you’re only on diaper number 100, you’ll need a sense of humor to get through the, well, you know.

Diaper Genie Elite

Heather: Stephanie, what does a typical day look like in your house?

Stephanie: I am a work-at-home mom of three with a flexible yet chaotic routine. A typical day starts by changing my daughters’ diapers, disposing my four-year-old son’s overnight pull-up, throwing breakfast together, nursing while signing on to work, and then switching into survival mode in an effort to brush my teeth before noon. More diaper changes, more nursing, more feeding, more survival. Wash, rinse, repeat! At the end of each day, I have probably changed about two-dozen diapers. Did I mention that I have two children in diapers? My just-turned-three-year-old was making a bit of potty training progress until her little sister came along. She hasn’t quite boycotted the whole operation, but lately, we’ve just not had time to devote to her training. Please say a prayer for us.

WhenCrazyMeetsExhaustion.com

Heather: And you do the same! My child picks and chooses when and where she will use the potty. Just the other day, she announced that she goes at mommy’s, daddy’s, aunties but not grammy’swho is the main person praying for this training to work. Do you have any funny diapering stories? Once, I forgot to put a diaper on my daughter. I have a severe case of mommy brain. My daughter wanted to put on her pull up, so in a rush, I thought she did, and I put on her pants. We were going to see Santa Claus at the mall, and when we got there, he pants were soaked! I had to buy her a new outfit, and of course all the children’s stores were sold out of red and green.

Stephanie: When my oldest daughter was a baby, I was elbow deep in one of those explosive diaper situations. Of course, it was 3 a.m. and sleep deprivation being what it is, I was barely functioning. I forgot to put the clean diaper underneath her before switching out the dirty one, and the next thing I know, she sneezed the biggest sneeze ever, and the “shrapnel” hit the fan. Actually the wall. So Gross. Also hilarious!

Heather: Definitely an icky situation, but funny. What did you think about the Diaper Genie[3] Elite Diaper Disposal System? How does the product prevent you from being crazy and exhausted?

Stephanie: Oh this thing is a lifesaver. I quickly learned why the garbage can was not meant to house dirty diapers.

Diaper Genie

The second I lifted the lid to dispose of yet another poo-fest, the putrid stench punched me in the face. So, I then went with plastic bags, promising to put them in the outside trash in the morning. Right. When I remembered to throw the bags outside, it worked pretty well. The key was remembering. The Diaper Genie Elite Diaper Disposal System actually allows me to be the busy, forgetful, crazy, exhausted mom that I am, because it does the work for me. It holds the diapers, and the odor, until I remember to take care of them. #MomBrainIsReal

Heather: I know! You tried out Playtex Diaper Genie refills[4] and Munchkin Nursery Fresh refills. Which did you like better and why?

Stephanie: Truly, I didn’t notice a difference in terms of performance. Both refills fit the same, functioned the same, and held in the odor the same. Both fit properly, and I didn’t have trouble closing the lid. The one minor difference I did observe was that the Nursery Fresh was a bit easier to pull through in terms of finding the beginning of the bag upon initial insertion. So if I were offered the choice of which refill to use on a regular basis, the decision would be based on price.

Heather: Would you recommend this product to your friends or readers?

Stephanie: Absolutely. It’s super easy to use, and the hands-free disposal method is not only helpful when carrying the baby, but also sanitary. That said, I do wish there were some mechanism that would push the diapers down as to consolidate them and make room for more!

Diaper Genie Foot Pedal

Heather: Wouldn’t that be a perfect world? The Elite Pail holds up to 38 newborn diapers, and the refills hold up to 270. Perhaps making room for the 5,475 diapers a child goes through in the first 2 ½ years would really cut down on the trips to the trash! Did you use a Diaper Genie with your first two children? If not, do you now regret it?

Stephanie: I used the Diaper Genie with my son in 2009, but it didn’t have the foot pedestal. I am now spoiled with such an amazing addition that I will never go back. However, I bought a cheaper version of a disposable diaper pail when I had my first daughter in 2011, and all I remember is saving a few bucks and inhaling a stench reminiscent of road kill on a hot summer’s day each time I threw away a diaper. Finally, my husband took the pail outside and hosed it down, but the stink remained. We tossed it.

Heather: That’s definitely a trip worth making to the trash! Is there anything else you would like to add?

Stephanie: Parenting is hard enough as is; why not make life a little easier by grabbing up a Diaper Genie.

Heather: Sounds like a great tag line for a commercial!

Stephanie: My dad always says, “The days are long, the years are short, but the diapers still stink.”

Heather: Playtex says, Out of smell, out of mind! And you can have peace of mind and a gift certificate to a spa[5]! Just buy any three Diaper Genie individual refills in one transaction between 5/1/14 – 7/31/14. Then, snap a picture of the receipt(s) and send it by text message or email to dg@drvsusa.com[6]. New Mom Must-Have! Diaper Genie Elite Diaper Pail

New Mom Must-Have! Diaper Genie Elite Diaper Pail
Jun. 02, 2014

Disclosure 1

You know I think one of the things that I forgot about when I became a mom again was how many diapers babies go through on a daily basis. It’s just a fact of life. You will be dealing with lots and lots of stinky diapers. The other fact of life? Stinky diaper disposal. Here’s what I didn’t want … 1.) Keep dirty diapers in the house where they make my house stinky 2.) Constantly be running outside to throw a dirty diaper away

That’s why a diaper pail is a must in any home with a baby! We loved the Playtex Diaper Genie when Lucas was a baby and are now using it again with Amelia. We recently received the Diaper Genie Elite Diaper Disposal System with a new odor absorbent Carbon Filter to test out and it does a wonderful job of containing odors.

1_MG_9778

  • The all-in-one diaper pail helps control odors, contain germs and makes diaper disposal easy
  • NEW! With safe, natural activated carbon filter to absorb strong diaper odors.
  • Double-lock pail design and multi-layer refill helps seal in odors and germs
  • Antimicrobial protection inhibits odor-causing bacteria
  • Ergonomic design with foot pedal allows for easy, hygienic ,hands-free opening
  • Elite Pail holds up to 38 newborn diapers
  • Refill holds up to 270 newborn diapers

My favorite feature is the Diaper Genie Elite Ultimate Odor Lock System, which is a double-lock design that seals away odors each time you drop in a dirty diaper. It basically provides a barrier between where the dirty diapers are stored and the top of the pail where you toss the diapers in. There are diaper pails on the market that DO NOT offer this. In fact, I was using one with Amelia because it was gifted to us and I was very unhappy with it!

1_MG_9784

The foot pedal is also a nice feature when you are holding a baby in one arm and a dirty diaper in the other!

We also received the Playtex Diaper Genie refills and Nursery Fresh refills (cheaper and by another brand) so that we could compare how each performs. Immediately, you notice a difference! The off brand refills were much more difficult to insert into the Diaper Genie. Even removing them was tougher. So much so that the refill case came apart as I was trying to remove. We even noticed that the lid did not seem to close as securely with the off brand refills. Playtex Diaper Genie refills definitely win! They are super easy to insert (they literally slide right in) and they have a better fit in the pail allowing the lid to close more securely. Less secure = odor leakage = stinky room! We definitely do not want that!

Diaper Genie Elite Keeps a Room Smelling Clean: Diaper Genie Refills vs. Nursery Fresh Refills
Jun. 02, 2014

As a Mom of one year old twins, we go through A LOT of diapers. Not as much as we used to, but we still are changing about 10 diapers a day between the two of them. With that many diapers to change, I need to make the process as easy and as quick as possible. The biggest help for me? The Playtex Diaper GenieElite with Carbon Filter! It sits right next to our changing table and we even have another one in the playroom in our basement. Double the diapers means that things get literally get stinky fast, but luckily the stink is quickly eliminated once I put it in the Diaper Genie Elite.

It has the Ultimate Odor Lock System, a double-lock design that seals away odors each time you drop in a dirty diaper, for a fresh-smelling nursery. The activated carbon filter absorbs strong diaper odors and the antimicrobial protection helps fight germs and bacteria. Together with the Diaper Genie Refill bags that feature 7 layers to lock in the odor, you wouldn’t even know that there are two pails of stinky diapers in our house. Now only if we could do something about our dog!

I had the chance to check out both the Diaper Genie refills and the Munchkin Nursery Fresh refills for the Diaper Genie Elite. In my opinions, there’s a clear winner but let’s take a look at both of them!

Diaper Genie Refills vs. Nursery Fresh Refills

We have been using the Playtex Diaper Genie for over a year now and used it with my son when he was first born. I love how easy it is to use and how it keeps the odor in but holds a lot of diapers! The actual product itself is very sturdy and the bags are VERY sturdy. I had no worry of the bag ripping or tearing causing diapers to spill out. When I placed the Diaper Genie refill into the Diaper Genie, it snapped in so easily and fit perfectly. It securely fits in the Diaper Genie letting the lid close properly.

Diaper Genie Elite

Best of all? NO bad smell! It keeps that stinky odor in and you wouldn’t even know there were dirty diapers in our basement and the girls room.

I also had the chance to try out the Nursery Fresh refills which are made by Munchkin. It looks very similar but I have to admit I like the packaging better on the Diaper Genie – something picky, I know! The first thing I noticed was that it seemed a little flimsy. The blue bag was already popping out a little and when I felt the bag, it seemed very thin and I was worried it would tear! Like the Diaper Genie refills, it can hold an average of 270 diapers but I definitely don’t want that spilling all over my house!

When I placed the Nursery Fresh refill into my Diaper Genie, it didn’t feel as secure as the Diaper Genie refill and I felt like I had to keep pushing it into place to make sure it would stay when I put the lid down as well as force the lid down. As far as the smell, I did feel like it didn’t keep the odor in quite as well as the Diaper Genie refills and that is something that is very important to me with two in diapers!

Nursery Fresh Refills

The Nursery Fresh refills are cheaper than the Diaper Genie refills but in this case, I’m all about quality over saving a few bucks – and if you know me, I’m all about saving a few bucks!

1. Buy any 3 Diaper Genie refills in one transaction from May 1, 2014 to July 31, 2014.

2. Snap a picture of your receipt, email or text it to [email protected][1] by July 31, 2014.

I have always been a fan of Diaper Genie systems. I have used them with both of my babies and love that they make disposing of stinky diapers so easy and keep the bad smells in the pail.

I was sent the Diaper Genie Elite with Carbon Filter. “The Ultimate Odor Lock system features a 7-layer refill bag, double clamp and anti-microbial pail, now with activated carbon filter to absorb and lock in strong diaper odors.”

image

I love this Diaper Pail and it really does lock in odors so well! My favorite feature is that it opens with a press of your foot and you toss the diaper in. I really like that I don’t have to press the diaper in with my hand. So much less gross than other pails I have used.

Since I am now enjoying my new diaper pail, I am wondering, how do other brands of refills compare to the Diaper Genie refills? Brands like Nursery Fresh say on the package “Compare to Diaper Genie Refills”. But how do they TRULY compare?

20140512_113610

I placed both in my Diaper Genie Elite pail and there is a big difference!

The nursery fresh refill doesn’t really even fit in the pail. It is really hard to push down, and even then doesn’t completely sit where it should. But the biggest problem I had with it, is that the lid doesn’t even close when the nursery fresh refill is in. That is not good since the lid needs to be closed to keep those nasty odors out.

image

Here you can see the nursery fresh refill (above) and the Diaper Genie refill (below) and how the lids look closed with each inside. The Diaper Genie refill fits perfectly, is very easy to place, and most importantly the lid closes tight.

image

When you look at the 2 refill packs side by side, you can see that the nursery fresh refill is just flat on top, and the Diaper Genie refill is shaped to create a seal once the lid is closed.

For me there is no question that the Diaper Genie refills are the way to go. You can find more information about Diaper Genie refills and pails at playtexbaby.com/diaper-genie

Right now when you buy Diaper Genie refills you can get a Spafinder gift card!

Keep Your Nursery Fresh With Playtex Diaper Genie Elite + Carbon Filter

Keep Your Nursery Fresh With Playtex Diaper Genie Elite + Carbon Filter
May. 15, 2014

I’ve pretty much had a kid in diapers for the last six years. There was a short nine month period between K being potty trained and the birth of baby girl, but she was still wearing Pull-Ups at night so… pretty much six years. And for the last six years, my Playtex Diaper Genie Elite has served me well.

Playtex Diaper Genie Elite With Odor Absorbent Carbon Filter

For the most part, the nursery has always been fresh without the stinky odor of diapers even though there is often a very full Diaper Genie in the room. It does its job keeping the odor inside. Now and again after a particularly stinky diaper I will get a foul whiff when I open the Diaper Genie to toss in another diaper. (Ick!) But that always prompted me to empty the Diaper Genie and all was restored.

Now Diaper Genie has even more odor fighting power with a new odor absorbent carbon filter. I already use carbon filters in my air purifier, so I am excited to have one in my Diaper Genie.

Diaper Genie Elite Carbon Filter
The carbon filters now come standard with the Diaper Genie Elite, but if you have an older model you can order one from Amazon for $3.99. Totally simple, yet very effective. And what I like about it is that it doesn’t try to mask stink with a heavy scent, instead the odorless carbon absorbs odors.

Diaper Genie Refill Test

In the six years I have been buying Diaper Genie refills, I didn’t even know someone made a generic version. And honestly, I am glad I didn’t because I might have purchased the generic if the price was better, but I would have been very disappointed.

Diaper Genie Refill vs Generic
As part of the Playtex Moms Trust[1] I was asked to test a Diaper Genie refill along side a generic refill in my new Diaper Genie Elite system. Looking at the refills side by side, they look almost identical I couldn’t figure out what the big deal was, but I was asked to test. In went the Diaper Genie refill. Everything worked like it should.
Playtex Diaper Genie Elite Refill
In went the generic refill… sort of.
Diaper Pail Refill
Huh? It doesn’t fit. At all. It goes in wonky, and the lid won’t close. (See why I would have been disappointed!)

Clearly the people at Playtex knew what I would find when I tested the new Diaper Genie Elite with the generic refill, but I didn’t. If I saw both items sitting on the store shelf, I would have totally bought the cheaper version. (Hello, it holds stinky diapers – I wouldn’t want to spend an extra dollar on the name brand.) But moms beware, sometimes the name brand is worth the extra dollar. Because I have a feeling that gap in the lid would start to make the room stinky, even with the new carbon filter.

The new and improved Diaper Genie Elite with carbon filter is now available. If you don’t want to replace your old Diaper Genie, spring for the carbon filter, you will be glad you did. And whatever you do, avoid the generic get the refill that fits!

Diaper Genie Elite with Carbon Review
May. 15, 2014

This post is sponsored by Playtex. All opinions are 100% mine! Diaper Pail

There are so many decisions that new moms need to make when putting items on their baby registry. I remember being overwhelmed and not sure what I needed to ask for. I do remember going straight back to the diaper area and registering for a diaper pail. I knew that a good diaper pail was essential!

My son was just out of diapers when Caroline came along. We opted to keep our old diaper pail when she came because it performed well for Jonah. It suited our needs at the time. A few months ago, I started to regret our decision to not replace it. It began to stink… big time!

I was ecstatic when our new Diaper Genie Elite with Carbon arrived on our doorstep! I think I was so excited that I may have done a little dance.

Diaper Genie

It didn’t take long for my new best friend to get unpacked and ready to change the air quality in my daughter’s room. Set up was easy. I tackled it alone when my husband was at the gym. It took me about 10 minutes to put it together and to figure out how it operates. If you are not familiar with the Diaper Genie, it uses a special refill bag to help eliminate odors.

Diaper Genie Refill

I had the opportunity to try out two different bag refill systems with my Diaper Genie Elite. I used the Playtex Diaper Genie brand refills as well as the Nursery Fresh brand. Both refills work and are installed the same way. I struggled installing the Nursery Fresh bags while the Playtex one fit perfectly (It probably was user error as the packaging is almost identical and I have been surviving on a limited amount of sleep these days). I found the Nursery Fresh brand plastic to be a bit thinner than the original bags from Playtex. Overall both refills worked great with my Diaper Genie, but I will continue to use the original refills for two main reasons. First, the thinner bags make me a bit nervous about tears and the last thing I want to do is to empty the pail and have diapers spill all over the garage. Second, there was a distinct smell difference when I used the Nursery Fresh. As I mentioned before, I couldn’t get the refill to fit perfectly so that could be the reason, or it could be because of the thinner plastic. I think I may try the Nursery Fresh once more to see if I was the cause of the odor or if there are other factors (I wouldn’t bother but they are a little less expensive than the original brand and every dollar counts).

The carbon filter at the top of the pail has made my daughter’s room a lot more pleasant to be in these days. I am kicking myself for thinking that we didn’t need a new pail a year ago. I hope my daughter will forgive me someday!

If You Think All Diaper Pails Are The Same, You Got Another Stink Coming

If You Think All Diaper Pails Are The Same, You Got Another Stink Coming
May. 15, 2014

Our diaper days aren’t over yet, but the worst part is. Our second little guy is starting to be potty trained, so while there is an accident here and there necessitating pull-ups and a diaper pail, we don’t have lots of stinky diapers piling up like we did when they were newborns. And boy were they stinky!

We started parenthood not really knowing what was important to have, and being inundated with a lot of products that weren’t really that helpful once we actually had them, but looking back, a dedicated diaper pail was definitely a must have. In addition to it being more sanitary to quarantine the poop to its own receptacle, it was easier on our nostrils (that thing only stayed in one spot of the house, away from the kitchen and general living areas). Luckily, the diaper pail has come a long way, even in just a few years.

diaper genie elite carbon filter

The Diaper Genie Elite Pail with Carbon is a better than any diaper pail we had before for this most significant reason: it contains the odors better. The receptacle mouth where the used diapers go in separated from the compartment where they are stored by a clamp that opens and closes along with the lid by way of the foot pedal, so you aren’t overwhelmed by hours of smoldering diaper odors. A carbon filter inside the lid helps absorb rogue odors that may have escaped the main storage compartment, and because you can size the bags how you want, you can toss it after a particularly offensive episode, reducing costs and the overall P.U. factor.

The Diaper Genie Elite Pail splits open in the middle to make it easy to tie up, remove, and toss the current stash of soiled diapers, and the foot pedal makes for hands free use (kind of a must have when your hands were just touching poop).

diaper genie carbon

We tried the Diaper Genie Elite Pail with Carbon with the Diaper Genie refills, which features seven layers for odor protection. Unlike refills from our past, they are used like you’d think they would be – just pull the bag out and through the center, and tie the bottom. For some reason, we had to do some manual acrobatics with a few brands… why would something like this need to be complicated? We also tried the Munchkin Nursery Fresh refills, even though I didn’t think you could use other brands (it says on it that it’s comparable). I’m glad it’s available if it’s the only thing in stock in a pinch, but I tend to prefer items specifically branded and made to work together, because they usually work together better. The Diaper Genie refills fit into the Diaper Genie Elite Pail better and it was easier to close the lid (and since I don’t want any odors seeping out, I prefer a better fit).

It’s been three months since Macks was born which means it’s been three months of having two little ones in diapers.

Ideally I would have loved for Avery to have been potty trained by now. I really wanted her to be out of diapers before Macks came, but she’s just not ready yet. She’s giving us plenty of signals, but she’s just not excited to pull the trigger. I don’t want to force her into something she’s not ready to tackle just yet.

So that means that I’ll continue to change diapers around the clock (at least it seems to be 24/7.) With all of these diapers I’ve been changing, I feel like I am constantly going out our apartment door to throw them down the trash chute. Up until a couple of weeks ago we didn’t have any special trash can for diapers, so we’d just walk out the door after each change and throw it away. It didn’t seem like a big deal when we only had Avery in diapers, but now with both kids in diapers (and Macks needing to be changed every couple of hours) it’s becoming a lot.

A couple of weeks ago Playtex sent me their Diaper Genie Elite with Carbon[1]. Let me tell you that it has been a lifesaver. It’s even encouraged the girls to throw the diapers away, which is an added plus.

IMG_9534

The Diaper Genie Elite with Carbon not only eliminates my need to step outside to throw the diaper away, but it keeps the odor of the diaper inside of the pail. I’ve used other pails before that would trap the smell in, but every time I’d open it to put another diaper in, I’d get a big whiff of the dirty diaper smell. It’s not pleasant. With the Diaper Genie Elite with Carbon it has a carbon filter that attaches to the top of the lid that helps trap in the dirty diaper smell. In addition to the carbon filter, the Diaper Genie Elite with Carbon has a double-lock design seals away odors each time you drop in a dirty diaper.

IMG_9539

The Diaper Genie refills can hold up to 270 dirty diapers. I found myself taking out the dirty diapers every couple of days and wouldn’t let it completely fill up to that much, but it’s nice knowing that it can. The refills are easy to place in the Diaper Genie and can be done within a couple of minutes (probably even less than it takes me to change the trash bag out of our trash can in the kitchen.)

IMG_9545

I was also sent the Nursery Fresh refills for the Diaper Genie Elite to test out becuase they market that they work with the Diaper Genie and hold more diapers and are less expensive than the Diaper Genie refills. While they might look the same at first glance, they definitely didn’t fit the same as the Diaper Genie Refills.

IMG_9544

With the Nursery Fresh refills, the bag was coming out of the top of the refill and when I tried to put it into the Diaper Genie it wouldn’t fit securely. I pushed it down as much as I could, but it just wouldn’t go in properly.

IMG_9547

IMG_9549

Then I tried to shut the lid of the Diaper Genie and it wouldn’t close properly leaving a chance for the dirty diaper odor to come out. I ended up taking it out and using the Diaper Genie refills which fit the Diaper Genie properly allowing the lid to shut completely.

IMG_9540

IMG_9533

I originally didn’t think of the refills as a big deal, but the second you walk into a room and smell dirty diapers, you will want to purchase the refills that are supposed to be used with the Diaper Genie. There’s no price you can put on the smell of fresh air.

Great news that benefits both mama and baby! When you buy any three Diaper Genie refills in one transaction from now through July 31, 2014 you will receive a $25 eGift Card from Spafinder Wellness. See the photo below for more info!

Hotel Survival Guide for Toddlers

Hotel Survival Guide for Toddlers
Playtex Baby DisclosureAs a busy mom, I look forward to taking a time out at a hotel. The pillows are fluffier, and the mattress is firmer than the one in my bedroom. I also don’t worry about washing when I wrap a fresh towel around my body after every long, steamy shower. And the best part of the trip–room service and housekeeping. Although I easily transition to my home away from home, my daughter doesn’t. She tosses and turns in the hotel’s crib, and crawls into my bed. And she sheds tears when I can’t find her favorite cartoon charters on the television. So after a few sleepovers, I learned a few lessons.

Bring FriendsOn every trip away from home, I bring along a few of my daughter’s friends. The stuffed animals and dolls keep her company in the car and the room. She even has multiples of her prized Pillow Pet a.k.a. Pink Pillow. In case we leave one behind, we won’t experience a meltdown in the car! The pillows are spread out!

Lighten UpHave you ever stayed in a hotel room where the blinds are so thick you wouldn’t realize the sun came up if you didn’t set your alarm clock? My daughter isn’t afraid of the dark at home, but a pitch black environment is pretty scary in an unfamiliar place. I toss a small plug in night light in the suitcase to ward away potential boogie monsters.

Pack a Security BlanketMy little one won’t go to sleep without her orange and pink polka dot blanket. Since birth, she has cuddled up with the security blankie, which surprisingly is still in tact.

Download DVDs (1)My daughter is addicted to Disney, Nick Jr. and Sprout. Everyday, we watch an animated episode before bedtime. To continue our routine, I download Daniel, Dora, Cailou and Peppa onto my iPad. I also bring along a book for story time.

Spray Disinfectant After watching way too many investigative reports about how hotels rarely wash bedspreads or wipe off remote controls, I spray a disinfectant throughout the room. I definitely don’t want someone to get sick on vacation!

Making Feeding Time Easier ~ Playtex Dishwasher Basket & On-The-Go Bottle Tote Review and Giveaway (10 Winners!)
Apr. 28, 2014

I have received this product for review and I am being compensated as a member of the Playtex Mom Trust Program, all opinions are my own.

When you have a baby or toddler you are very busy, and they require a lot of time. That is why I am always on the lookout for products that will make things easier for me as a mom. Playtex has a couple products that I find to be very helpful when it comes to feeding your little one.

The first is the Playtex SmartSpace Dishwasher Basket[1]. This basket makes clean up much easier and frees up a lot of space in my dishwasher.

“Playtex makes feeding-time clean up easy with the Playtex™ SmartSpace Dishwasher Basket. Now bottles, nipples, and small parts get clean and stay in their place in the dishwasher.”

image

I like how I can fit a lot of nipples and bottle pieces in this basket yet it doesn’t take up a lot of space on the top rack of my dishwasher.

20140425_135710

It is great having all of babies items in one place in the dishwasher. I like that I can take the whole basket out and over to the drawer where I store them all. It saves me a lot of time.

image

Another thing I love about this basket is that it has straw holders that flip out on each side.

image

I never know where to put the straws from my daughter sippy cups in the dishwasher. I love that this basket provides the perfect place for them.

image

All of baby’s feeding accessories come out nice and clean when using this basket. I highly recommend it!

20140425_135453

Another great product is the Playtex SmartCool On-The-Go Bottle Tote[2].

“Keep your baby bottles cool for up to 14 hours* with the The Playtex™ SmartCool On-The-Go Bottle Tote. The insulated tote can hold up to three bottles and offers deep pockets for extra storage and organization. This tote is a must-have for a busy mom-on-the go.
* Liquids stay below 56F for more than 14 hours per Playtex test protocol.”image

This is a great little tote. It has 2 blue freezer packs on the inside. They sit in their own little pockets with Velcro closures. Once they have been frozen and put back in the tote they can keep bottles cool for up to 14 hours.

image

Since my daughter isn’t using bottles during the day we don’t use it for bottles, instead we use it for her sippy cups with milk and juice in them. I love that it fits 2 of her large Playtex sippy cups in it. I can also put one sippy and a couple of her fruit pouches or yogurts to bring along and keep cold as well.

image

It can also fit up to 3 bottles. So it is perfect for use with baby bottles, into toddler years and beyond!

I also like that it has a lot of pockets so you have a space for everything you need to bring along for feeding baby. It also has a little removable pouch you can put a pacifier or extra nipples in.

These products are available at retailers nationwide.

What We Learned On Our 19 Day Family Vacation – Travel Tips

What We Learned On Our 19 Day Family Vacation – Travel Tips
Apr. 28, 2014

*This is part of a sponsored campaign. All opinions are my own.

We just got back from a very long trip – 19 days to be exact. We went to Miami, Key West and California. We drove to Miami, which is a 12 hour drive from Atlanta, including stops. We flew to California from Miami, which is a 5 1/2 hour flight. All with two kids. One of those kids being almost 1 year old. We are crazy, for sure!

Checking in to our flight to California

Checking in to our flight to California

Surprisingly though, traveling with kids wasn’t that bad. I mean – don’t get me wrong – we definitely had some bumps along the way. For instance, on our way back from California we were waiting to board our flight when Amelia had a nuclear meltdown for several minutes. Everyone and I mean EVERYONE was staring at us. You know they had to thinking “OMG, I hope that baby is not sitting next to me on the plane!” For a brief moment, I wanted to cry, but then I just started laughing because seriously…what could I do? I couldn’t reason with a 1 year old. I tried my best to console her until she quieted down, but besides that – there wasn’t anything I could do.

For the most part though, everything went pretty smoothly and we had a great time! The key was preparation! Below are a few things that we learned along the way. Hope they help your family travel easier this spring and summer!

Amelia on the plane with daddy

Amelia on the plane with daddy

Mom Tip General - 4

  • When flying with a baby, I recommend booking her a seat even if she is young enough to be a lap child (2 and under). We didn’t do this so that we could save money and ended up regretting it. Amelia was very squirmy on the flight and it would have definitely been a better flight if she’d had her own seat (sitting on a carseat, of course). If you can’t book your baby a seat, then make sure that you are sitting next to someone you know as a buffer from other people who your baby will inevitably want to grab at LOL.
  • Snacks, snacks, snacks! Whether you are flying or traveling by car, be prepared with lots of snacks! I don’t know what it is about food, but it can buy you a few minutes of sanity almost every time.
  • Pack small toys that you can pull out throughout your flight or road trip. It’s a good idea to have a few new things that will be exciting and hold their attention for longer periods (look in clearance or dollar bins).
  • For older kids, pack a portable DVD player, movies, iPad, iPod or other electronic gaming device, books, coloring and sticker books, etc.
  • If traveling by plane, make sure to get to the airport early so that you can get checked-in, check your bags, go through security and get to your gate with plenty of time. This will lower your stress level and start your trip off on the right foot! You don’t want to be running in an airport with kids in tow.
  • If traveling by car, get on the road as early as possible. We like to leave at 4 or 5 am so that it’s still dark and the kids will sleep for the first few hours.
  • Be flexible, stay positive, and know that kids will be kids. There will likely be bumps (read: meltdowns) along the way, but it’s ok! Breathe!

Must Have On-the-Go Products for Baby {Giveaway}

Must Have On-the-Go Products for Baby {Giveaway}
Apr. 28, 2014
Posted on April 28, 2014 at: 12:00 am -

I often get asked how long it takes me to get out of the house with all three kids. My short answer; too long. Especially when I am by myself.

I always try to start my day early getting the kids ready hours before we actually have to leave the apartment. This way I am not rushing to get them dressed at the last minute. Once I get them dressed they always have a little bit of down time so that I can get myself ready as well as all of the stuff that they require for a day out.

Living in the city without a car requires me to pack light for our daily adventures. I don’t have much space in our stroller for things for all of the kids, so I have to be smart when I pack. I always bring water for the girls, snacks, diapers for both Avery and Macks, and wipes (lots and lots of wipes.) Most of the time I try to stuff everything in one bag so that I don’t have to carry much, but every once in a while if I know that we are going to be out all day, I bring an extra bag with a bottle and to store the girl’s water.

Although Macks is 99% breastfed, I will bring a bottle for him if for those “just in case moments.” Most of the time it never gets used, but there have been moments that we have been in a car and he gets hungry, so I feed him while he’s in his carseat (I haven’t mastered the standing over the car seat and nursing thing yet.)

You’ve always heard the saying that breastmilk is like liquid gold and I definitely feel that way so I never ever want to waste anything that I pump. When we are out on the go I need to make sure that my milk stays cold so that it won’t go bad. Lately I’ve been carrying his bottle around in the Playtex Insulated Baby Bottle Tote. I love it because it’s small and compact yet has so much room inside to keep his bottle and the girls water.

IMG_9392 copy

IMG_9359 copy

With the ice packs (which are included,) it keeps the bottle cool for up to 14 hours. I’ve even used it to store my pumped milk bags when I am pumping on-the-go. It can hold so much milk while I am on the go and I never have to worry about it going bag while I am out all day. It love that it has a convenient pouch for extra nipples, or anything else I need to carry with me.

IMG_9401 copy

IMG_9396 copy

Another great must-have for trips with the kids (especially road trips) is the Playtex Diaper Genie SmartCaddy diaper organizer. On our long car ride from North Carolina a month ago, we had so much stuff in the car for all three kids that it was hard to keep track of everything. With both Avery and Macks in diapers, we had to stop several times so that I could change them. We were pressed on time because we really wanted to make it to Tampa, so I needed to be able to change those diapers quickly. I had no time to dig in my bag to look for the correct size diaper and wipes.

The Diaper Caddy provides a convenient and organized way to store all of baby’s essentials. I use it at home a lot because I change diapers in nearly every room. For our road trip, I just grabbed half of the caddy, filled it with diapers, wipes, and diaper cream and had it sitting in the floor of the car so that I could easily access it when I need to change a diaper. It probably saved me a total of 20 minutes throughout the trip of having to search for all the supplies needed to change their diapers.

IMG_9404 copy

The caddy has several pockets on the outside or nearly anything you need for baby during diaper changes. If you need to keep your little one entertained during changes, keep a toy in the pocket to easily access during those changes. It’s an easy and convenient baby product that makes diaper changes go much more smoothly.

Tips on Taking a Road Trip with Kids
Apr. 23, 2014

Before you know it, Summer will be here and that’s usually the best time to travel with kids! We already have a few road trips scheduled for this summer – Kansas City and Louisville – and we will be taking our big road trip in October to Walt Disney World. My husband isn’t a big fan of flying, so we always drive. Honestly, we have a lot of fun during our road trips and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Packed for a Beach Trip

We took Hayden on his first road trip when he was only 4 months old to Branson, Missouri. In the past 6 years, he has been on numerous trips and is now a road tripping pro. When Olivia and Evie were only 4 months old, we also took a road trip 12 hours away to Gulf Shores. Traveling with 3 kids vs. 1 kid was a lot different! Below are some of my road trips with kids tips!

road trip with kids tips

Buy a Portable DVD Player

We bought a portable DVD player four Hayden’s first trip to Walt Disney World and it was one of the best investments we have made. There are so many different kinds and we had one that strapped onto the back of a front seat. Popping in a Disney DVD saved us from many tantrums while on the road. When we bought our minivan, the biggest draw was the built in DVD player!

Visit the Library

We always visit the library a few days before our road trip begins and pick out DVD’s that Hayden has never seen before and also books that he hasn’t read before. Our library lets you check out up to SIXTY books, but we usually stick to about 10-15 books that I put in a reusable bag in the backseat. When Hayden starts to get antsy, I hand him a book and let him look through the book or read it to him from the front seat. This easily provides hours of entertainment! Our girls are both big book fans, so I know we will be hitting the library for plenty of books this summer. Make sure to sign up for your local library’s summer reading program so your little one can earn prizes!

Pack Snacks and Drinks

It always happens – you’re a few hours into your trip and your little one is hungry or thirsty. Instead of going through a drive-thru where you’ll obviously have to get an ice cream treat for yourself {no? just me?} or paying $2.99 for a small bottle of milk at a gas station, pack snacks and drinks at home! We love the Playtex SmartCool On-The-Go Bottle Tote[1], which holds 3 baby bottles or 2 sippy cups for up to 14 hours. Hayden can keep that next to his seat where he can easily grab his cups from it. It also has room for a baggie of apple slices or grapes.

You can also pack a bigger cooler with juice boxes, sandwiches, fruit snacks and more! You’ll save money and you won’t have to lose time while traveling.

Pack a Fun Bag

For Hayden, we always would get a big reusable bag {or backpack} and pack it with the library books we picked up earlier in the week and also small toys and activities from Target’s One Spot or the Dollar Store. This way, whenever he started getting antsy, we pulled out new to him books and toys and they kept him happy and occupied.

Be Comfy

Whenever we are headed on a road trip, I always wear my yoga pants, a tee and a cardigan so I can be comfortable and I’m in layers. The same goes for kids! I never have my kids wear jeans on trips – comfy pants and tees all the way! Slip on shoes are easier in case they want to take their shoes off in the car but easily slip them back on for bathroom breaks.

Just in Case Bag

I always make sure to pack a “just in case” bag. It’s filled with grocery bags for trash, a small first aid kit, baby wipes and cleaning wipes and an extra change of clothing just in case we need them!

I’d love to hear YOUR tips on how you make road trips easier with kids! Are you planning any trips this Summer?

Playtex Baby Products for the On-the-Go Mom

Being a mom that is always on-the-go, I am constantly looking for products that make traveling a little bit easier. Whether it is a trip to grandmas or a trip to the ball field for one of Lucas’ baseball games or a trip to the beach for summer vacation, getting out of the house and packed up with all of the baby stuff is a huge chore so having a few products to make that simpler is always a plus! One of our go-to travel products is the Playtex™ SmartCool On-The-Go Bottle Tote[1]. It is perfect for packing up Amelia’s bottles, sippy cups, or food. What I love about it is that it will keep liquids cold for up to 14 HOURS. Pretty awesome!

It fits three standard size bottles and it has pokers for other stuff – even a pod that can be used to store extra nipples or pacis. Plus, I can sneak in some of Lucas’ snacks and keep them cool too! It’s really not just for baby stuff. It’s a cooler tote that can be used well beyond the baby years.

Another item that is handy BOTH at home and on-the-go is the Playtex™ SmartSpace Dishwasher Basket[2]. Because seriously? Baby bottles and sippy cups have so many small parts! They get lost in the dishwasher or even worse – damaged by the heat. This keeps everything safe and in its place! In addition, we typically rent vacation homes or condos that have dishwashers so this is a godsend when we travel as well.

Traveling With Little Ones

Traveling With Little Ones
Apr. 23, 2014

Many of my friends have told me that going from one child to having two children was very difficult for them.

For me, it was the opposite. It took me forever to get the hang of taking care of one baby. I made all the classic mistakes and even invented a few of my own. By the time I got pregnant with my second child, I’d learned from making pretty much every mistake out there.

So when I pack for traveling with little ones now, it’s because I’ve learned from past mistakes. Things I’ve forgotten, things I didn’t think we’d need, things I didn’t think there’d be room for.

I know now what it takes for happy traveling with my three young children.

The most important items for daytime traveling are fun activities:

Activities During Long Car Rides

I try to make sure the each of the children has several different items that they can use or play with in the carseat. Cars for my toddler son and coloring books with crayons for the girls are always big hits. We also like to bring along several family travel games that we can all play together. If it’s a particularly long car ride, we’ll also bring the iPad for the kids to play with or watch a kids’ program on.

The next important items for family travel are baby and toddler gear:

Baby and Toddler Gear for Traveling

Although I make sure to change my babies’ diapers often during road trips, it seems like sitting in the carseat for extended periods of time causes more diaper rash than normal. I made several late-night drugstore runs in strange towns to get diaper rash creams before I started to remember to take it with us. Now, I make certain to pack all the baby and toddler gear that my kids might need, from plenty of diapers and wipes, to skincare items and extra pacifiers.

Since most of our long car trips occur during a naptime or bedtime, I pack for that too:

Favorite Doll or Stuffed Animal

Each child picks a favorite lovey to cuddle when they fall asleep. Whether it’s a favorite doll or stuffed animal, or a cozy blanket to snuggle with, it helps the kids get comfortable and settle down to sleep on the road.

Now that the girls are a little bit older, I let them each pack their own little backpack or suitcase:

Fun Case for Each Child

I help the girls gather items for their bags and I also pack one for my toddler son. Each child gets several healthy snacks, a bottled water with pop-top or a water in a non-drop sippy cup, and a few of their favorite small toys and belongings. The kids take a lot of pride in being able to decide when to eat their snacks and when to play with different items and like feeling a little more independent.

After many car trips and many learning lessons, we’ve gotten pretty good at making sure we pack everything we’ll need. But just in case, we make sure we’re always traveling along a route that allows for bathroom stops, restaurant breaks and last minute drugstore needs.

Having everything we need to keep the kids comfortable and happy means a more enjoyable trip for everyone!

Playtex Baby Products That Stand The Test Of Time ~ 10 Winner Giveaway
Apr. 23, 2014

Babies need a lot of stuff. And while much of that stuff is only needed for the first few months, it is funny how some baby items get woven into your life and become a must-have item long after baby is no longer a baby. Two of those items that have become part of my day-to-day life are a dishwasher basket and an insulated bottle tote.

My girls are now six and two, so we are long past the bottle stage, and really, because I solely breastfeed, we used very few bottles. So it might seem odd that these are two products that I use regularly, and yet, it shows how versatile they are. Since mine have seen quite a bit of wear, I was thrilled to receive new Playtex ones as part of the
