Why I’m Okay With My Kids Still Using Sippy Cups
Sep. 22, 2014

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Playtex Baby. All opinions are authentic and my own. Please see my disclosure policy[1].

I’m Cool With Sippy Cups..

Yep. I’m not ashamed to admit that even my 7 year old still uses a sippy cup sometimes. Well… pretty often actually. Yes; I’ve gotten sideways glances from strangers, passive aggressive comments from well-meaning grandmas, and even a pediatrician asking him directly, “Why do you have a sippy cup?!” Here’s our answer:

Why I'm Okay With My Kids Still Using Sippy Cups [#sponsored by Playtex] at B-Inspired Mama

Sippy Cups Help Keep Me Sane!

I know they say not to cry about it, but frankly… I just don’t have time for spilled milk these days. And while I do offer them opportunities to use real drinking cups at family meals, the sippy cups are just simpler and easier and CLEANER for our crazy day-to-day activities. They’re insulated to keep drinks cool. They’re leak and spill-proof to keep my floors and furniture clean. And I’m pretty sure they won’t be taking them with them on their first dates. BONUS: Sucking from the sippy cup spout helps my kids with Sensory Processing Disorder[2] get proprioceptive input and regulate their sensory systems!

Our Favorite Sippy Cups:

Playtex TravelTime Sippy Cups at B-Inspired MamaPlaytex TravelTime Sippy Cups at B-Inspired Mama

To make it fair, the cups we use just don’t seem that much like typical sippy cups anyway. Since the kids were babies, we’ve always loves Playtex cups[3]. J.C. (age 2.5) still likes the soft spout training cups. It’s what he prefers – and it’s not a battle I care to take on at the moment. So I’m okay with that. But Sawyer and Priscilla (ages 7.5 and 5.5 respectively) love our new TravelTime Sport Spout Cups. We tried other water bottles and sports cups in the past, but they always end up leaking or are difficult to clean. So we stick with Playtex.

150+ Do-A-Dot Printable Worksheet Coloring Pages For Preschool
Sep. 17, 2014

Even though it has been a month since she started, I still can’t believe my baby is in preschool! My baby! (Sniff, sniff.) From day one she was in her element. While many of the other two year olds were saying their tearful goodbyes, my girl sat right down at the arts and crafts table and started making a project. Casually waving goodbye to me while she painted, I was the only one who cried that day.

Now that we are in the groove of the school year, she sits with big sister and I at the table everyday after school and wants to do her “homework” too. (After all, she is in school just like sister so she wants homework too.) So I keep coming up with new things for her to do as homework. Our most recent obsession are Do-A-Dot pages.

150 Do A Dot Printable Worksheets
If you aren’t familiar, Do-A-Dot markers[1] are that make dots. And there are oddles and oddles of printable worksheet pages you can find online for Do-A-Dot projects. For Do-A-Dot worksheets you can use Do-A-Dot markers[2], circle stickers[3], stamps[4], pom poms or pretty much anything you can think of to fill in the circles working on hand-eye coordination and learning letters and numbers at the same time. Perfect for preschoolers.

As part of the Playtex Mom Trust[5] I want to share with you some great Do A Dot printable pages for toddlers and preschoolers.

When Do You Transition to a Sippy Cup?

When Do You Transition to a Sippy Cup?
Sep. 22, 2014
Posted on September 22, 2014 at: 9:25 pm -

cups

Macks just recently started to hold his own bottle. Although he doesn’t get them often, it’s a big milestone when they can start to feed themselves. Now that his coordination is improving and he’s getting older, I’ve started to get prepared to transition him from bottles to sippy cups. I had both of the girls off of a bottle and onto the cup by 12 months (for no particular reason,) so it’s something that I’ve just stuck with.

I’ve always wondered when the “perfect” time was to start Macks on a cup. I feel like we just got him used to and loving a bottle and now it’s time to get him ready to transition him to a sippy cup. It will be a couple of months before I make the full transition, but my goal is to have him weaned off of a bottle by the time that he is one.

To help him prepare to make the switch, there are a couple of things I am doing to get him used to a sippy cup. We’ve had a lot of alone time lately with the girls in school, so it’s the perfect time to teach him how to use it. I’ll sit on the floor with him and show him how the cup goes to our mouth by lifting it up and pretending to drink it. I’ll then hand it to him to let him to try to mimic. He doesn’t do it right away, but he loves to sit on the ground and play with it. The more that I introduce him to the cup, the more likely he is to get used to it to be able to use it in a couple of months.

Playtex Baby recently sent us their PlayTime Cups. Macks is still a bit young for these, but I still like to get him used to something, so I let him play with them and he immediately brought them to his mouth. He has an obsession with straws and loved to try to sip out of the straw cup. Avery, on the other hand, is still using sippy cups while we are in the car, so the straw cup is perfect for her.

I love the PlayTime Cups because they are leak-proof. It’s almost guaranteed that Avery will drop the cup at least once in the car and it’s never once spilled. The cups feature the Twist ‘N Click™ Technology which makes a clicking sound letting you know that it’s secure.

The deigns are bright and playful and I love being able to point out all of the animals to Macks while we are playing together. It will definitely be exciting when I see him using these cups as he gets older.

When did you transition to a sippy cup?

Great news! Playtex and Crayola have teamed up to give you a chance to win a trip to the Crayola Experience. From now through December 2014, when you purchase Playtex Baby’s PlayTime and TravelTime cups, you will receive coupons on My First Crayola and Color Wonder products. Also visit www.crayola.com/Playtex[1] to enter to win a family trip to Crayola Experience.

Combatting Colic? This Baby Bottle Can Help!
Combatting Colic? This Baby Bottle Can Help!

Tomorrow, my little baby–correction, my big girl as Caitlynn calls herself–is starting preschool tomorrow. I’ve heard moms say time flies and enjoy the moment, but I never thought I would be the one giving that advice. That’s just what I told my blogging buddy Nae Carter from I Choose the Sun[1] who recently became a first time mom and welcomed her daughter into the world. I’m still in shock about the start of school, but unfortunately I can’t freeze the hands of time. I can however reflect on my memories. That’s just what I did when I interviewed Nae about a couple Playtex Baby products she tried out. She reviewed Playtex Nurser with Drop-Ins Liners[2] and VentAire bottles[3].

Playtex1

The VentAire is uniquely designed to reduce colic through a bottom venting system that helps reduce air ingestion. The angled bottle design promotes a semi-upright feeding position, recommended by pediatricians to help prevent ear infections. If you baby suffers infant acid reflux like my daughter did, this isn’t just a bottle–it’s a lifesaver!

Heather: Why did you decide to breastfeed your daughter? And how is it coming along?

Nae: Breast milk offers the best nutrition for her. The experience has been more challenging than I expected but well worth it. I love that I can provide nourishment to help my baby grow and share in a bonding experience. I hope to breastfeed for 18-months, but would be satisfied with a year.

Heather: Did you face any challenges, like low milk production, latching pain, etc.? If so, how are you overcoming any of those issues?

Nae: We faced several challenges. The first of which began when my baby was given formula by the NICU against my wishes. As a result, I second-guessed nature when my milk didn’t come in right away and feared that my low birth weight baby would starve. Upon coming home, I attempted to exclusively breastfeed, but I couldn’t shake my perception of low milk production and pumping was not effective. I drank Mother’s Milk tea and took fenugreek pills and brewer’s yeast all in an attempt to increase my production. I don’t pump, but I do supplement with formula.

Playtex2

Heather: Did you feel guilty giving her formula? Some moms do. I didn’t want to make the switch when my daughter turned ten months old, however I underwent a surgery and took a prescription medicine. Looking back, I think I was too hard on myself! I did it for as long as I did, and that’s what mattered most!

Nae: Initially I felt guilty about not exclusively breastfeeding, but I’ve recently accepted that our situation is what is best for us. I am so grateful that my daughter continues to want to nurse.

Heather: You talked about why you love breastfeeding. What do you like about bottle feeding? I was happy to get in some extra sleep or me time at a girls night out event.

Nae: I like that bottle feeding allows my husband to have quality feeding time with her. I am fortunate to work from home, but on the occasion have to go into the office. When I do, my mom can feed her.

Playtex3

Heather: My daughter suffered from infant acid reflux, so she threw up a lot until I found a bottle that worked well for her sensitive stomach. Did your little have any problems like that or with colic?

Nae: Yes, our daughter had painful gas episodes for the first couple of months. We switched to a gentler formula, removed dairy from my diet and tried different bottles. In the end, her digestion became easier as her system matured.

Heather: What did you like or not like about the Playtex products?

Nae: I loved the angled bottle, and the vent for keeping the air away from the nipple. I also like the convenient and sanitary nature of the drop- in liners. I would definitely recommend the products to another first time mom.

Heather: The VentAire is compatible with all Playtex nipples and caps for greater feeding flexibility. It’s easy to mix and match bottles and nipples for the perfect combination that fits your babies evolving preferences. That’s scores points with a mom like me, who misplaces the different parts of sippy cups all the time.

I like the fact that the liners make cleaning so simple, especially when your feeding in public. So, I forgot to ask–how old is your little princess now, and does she enjoy feeding time?

Nae: Ameenah is 4-months. She was born April 10, 2014. She loves feeding time, she loves to eat whether bottle or breast. S he does not discriminate!

Heather: What feeding advice would you give other new moms?

Nae: Follow your child’s specific cues and don’t pressure yourself.

Heather: That’s so key! Sometimes new moms listen to everyone’s advice over our own intuition.

Hey DFTM Moms–What have you done to ease your little one’s colic? What are your must-have feeding products?

Playtex VentAire and Drop-Ins Bottles
Aug. 25, 2014
This post is sponsored by Playtex. All opinions are 100% mine. Playtex

Over the years as a mom, I have tried several bottles for my kids. While I wish I could have breast fed normally, it didn’t work out for me. Instead, I pumped and then fed my babies via a bottle. I’m so thankful that they were able to get breast milk, but I learned that sometimes bottle feeding can be a real pain. Finding a bottle that worked for my kids and I was an adventure. I wish we found Playtex bottles sooner.

Perfect for a busy mom on-the-go, the Playtex Nurser with Drop-Ins Liners provides benefits that mom and baby will enjoy. Disposable Drop-Ins Liners make this bottle easy to use and easy to clean, and provide a comfortable feed for baby. As baby feeds, you can see the soft liner gently collapsing to prevent air from mixing with milk and getting into baby’s tummy. This means less gas and less discomfort for baby. Adjustable bottle angles for semi-upright feeding position recommended by pediatricians to help prevent ear infections. The Nurser Bottle is compatible with all new Playtex nipples to match baby’s unique preferences.

Bottles

As parents, there is nothing worse than having your child cry out in pain and not be able to help him. I felt horrible when my little guy or little gal had gas. I wanted to take away their discomfort. Thankfully Playtex has the VentAire bottle that is designed to reduce discomfort.

Playtex knows babies and the proof is in our PlaytexVentAire bottle. The VentAire is uniquely designed to reduce colic through a bottom venting system that helps reduce air ingestion. The angled bottle design promotes a semi-upright feeding position, recommended by pediatricians to help prevent ear infections.
The VentAire Bottle is compatible with all new Playtexnipples to match baby’s unique preferences.

As part of the Playtex Baby Mom Trust[1], I was sent some of their best selling bottles to review. While I am no longer bottle feeding my kiddos, I had a dear friend review the bottles for me. She told me that she absolutely loves the bottles for her infant daughter. The Drop-In liners are fantastic for easy clean up and keeping air out of the bottle. She exclusively uses Playtex for her daughter.

While moms love how their babies react to the bottles the bottle designs are also very practical. Both bottles will work with any Playtex nipple and both come with Naturalatch Silicome Nipples. This makes bottle feeding easier and more comfortable for baby. It mimics the natural latch that they would make on the breast. Both the Ventaire and Nurser bottles are also dishwasher safe making clean up a breeze.

If you are like me and breastfeeding your child isn’t in the cards, check out these amazing bottles from Playtex.

What are your favorite features in a baby bottle?

I’ve spent the entire summer with all three kids. While it was incredibly challenging, it is by far our best summer yet. We’ve played in our backyard, made trips to the beach, the museum, and the sprinkler park. I’ve watched as Harlan and Avery have become the best of friends and as Macks has grown to love his big sisters dearly.

But this Thursday starts an entirely new routine for our family. Harlan starts kindergarten and Avery will start preschool next week. That leaves Macks and I at home together. I’m excited for our time alone together and that it’s also freeing up some time for me to get more things done (because getting things done with just one seems like a dream compared to having three around.)

I’ve started to look for a sitter for a couple days a week so that I can help get Macks accustomed to others while giving me alone time to work. Macks has been having separation issues lately, so the more time that he gets with someone other than me, the better. With the girls in school, it leaves less stress on both me and the sitter with just Macks. Macks is 99% brestfed, but there are those moments that he does take a bottle while I am not around. His transition to a bottle hasn’t been an easy one, but thankfully he’s slowly getting used to it and will let others feed him without a problem. He’s tried several bottles and is very particular about the one that he takes. Playtex bottles are ones on his list.

Playtex keeps both moms and babies in mind when creating their bottles. And their newest bottle innovations prove just that.

IMG_0887

The Playtex VentAire Bottle[1] is uniquely designed to reduce colic through the venting system that is at the bottom of the bottle. The venting system helps reduce air ingestion. Harlan suffered from colic for months so I know how awful it can be for baby and for parents. The VentAire is angled to promote an upright position when feeding. This not only helps reduce colic, but will also help prevent ear infections. The VentAire Bottle is compatible with all new Playtex nipples[2] to match baby’s unique preferences.

IMG_0888

IMG_0892

Macks loves the bottle because of the wide mouth design that is more similar to that of the breast. It helps make it worry free when I leave him knowing that he will get a full meal without any problems.

IMG_0896

Playtex has also released the the Playtex Nurser with Drop-Ins Liners[3]. As a mom of three always on the go, these bottles are amazing. The Disposable Drop-Ins Liners make it super easy to use and less hassle. Once I’m done with a feeding I can simply throw the liner away making for minimal clean up.

IMG_0900

The liners gently collapse as your baby feeds so you don’t have to worry about air getting in and into your little one’s belly. I absolutely love the adjustable bottle angles which allows you to feed baby in a semi-upright position. And like the VentAire Bottle, the Nurser Bottle is compatible with all new Playtex nipples.

IMG_0895

Both bottles have a unique lid with triangles so that you can line them up to make sure that the nipples are on tight and secure to prevent leaking. As a mom who pumps, this is such a great detail. As we all know, breast milk is like liquid gold and any drop that spills can be devastating.

This is a time of transition for all of us in our family. But something new in our lives always brings a lesson along with it. I can’t wait to see what we discover.

{Disclosure: I am working with Playtex as a proud member of the Playtex Baby Mom Trust program[4], a virtual network where moms can find common ground and support each other through sharing stories, tips, product reviews, insights and unique experiences of motherhood. Five Tips for Night Time Baby Feeding

With Amelia at the hospital right after she was born

Whether you bottle feed or breast feed, nighttime feedings can be tough so today I thought I’d share a few things that worked for our family when Lucas and Amelia were at that stage.

Mom Tip General #6

1. Try cluster feeding your baby. This is giving your baby extra feeds several times before bed so that baby has a full tummy and is able to sleep a longer stretch.

2. Dream-feed your baby. This is waking your baby up before you go to bed. We actually did this with Lucas who was bottle-fed. Mike would go to bed before me and I would stay up and feed Lucas around 12am and then go to bed. Mike would then get up around 4-5am when Lucas would wake up and feed him. We would often flip the order too. This way, we both got pretty decent sleep and weren’t dead the next day. Even if you breastfeed, dream-feeding can be helpful because babies typically go to bed early so this can allow you to get at least a few hours of uninterrupted sleep before you need to nurse again.

3. Keep nighttime feedings focused on feeding only. Keep lights dimmed or turned off. Speak quietly and avoid playing with baby (I know this is very difficult). You want your baby to know that this is still sleep time. I can remember cherishing these moments of peace - the whole house quiet and asleep and my warm, cuddly baby in my arms.

4. Co-sleeping can help because your baby is right there next to you in a co-sleeper so you won’t necessarily need to get out of bed and baby may stay half-asleep throughout the entire feeding. However, please make sure to research this option as there are safety precautions that should be taken.

5. If your baby needs to have a diaper change, do it before you feed him. That way your baby has time to get sleepy again while feeding. Click HERE[1] for safety guidelines to consider via Dr. Sears.

Let Your Baby Decide With The New Playtex Nipple Variety Pack ~ Giveaway

Let Your Baby Decide With The New Playtex Nipple Variety Pack ~ Giveaway
May. 15, 2014

I’ve pretty much had a kid in diapers for the last six years. There was a short nine month period between K being potty trained and the birth of baby girl, but she was still wearing Pull-Ups at night so… pretty much six years. And for the last six years, my Playtex Diaper Genie Elite has served me well.

Playtex Diaper Genie Elite With Odor Absorbent Carbon Filter

For the most part, the nursery has always been fresh without the stinky odor of diapers even though there is often a very full Diaper Genie in the room. It does its job keeping the odor inside. Now and again after a particularly stinky diaper I will get a foul whiff when I open the Diaper Genie to toss in another diaper. (Ick!) But that always prompted me to empty the Diaper Genie and all was restored.

Now Diaper Genie has even more odor fighting power with a new odor absorbent carbon filter. I already use carbon filters in my air purifier, so I am excited to have one in my Diaper Genie.

Diaper Genie Elite Carbon Filter
The carbon filters now come standard with the Diaper Genie Elite, but if you have an older model you can order one from Amazon for $3.99. Totally simple, yet very effective. And what I like about it is that it doesn’t try to mask stink with a heavy scent, instead the odorless carbon absorbs odors.

Diaper Genie Refill Test

In the six years I have been buying Diaper Genie refills, I didn’t even know someone made a generic version. And honestly, I am glad I didn’t because I might have purchased the generic if the price was better, but I would have been very disappointed.

Diaper Genie Refill vs Generic
As part of the Playtex Moms Trust[1] I was asked to test a Diaper Genie refill along side a generic refill in my new Diaper Genie Elite system. Looking at the refills side by side, they look almost identical I couldn’t figure out what the big deal was, but I was asked to test. In went the Diaper Genie refill. Everything worked like it should.
Playtex Diaper Genie Elite Refill
In went the generic refill… sort of.
Diaper Pail Refill
Huh? It doesn’t fit. At all. It goes in wonky, and the lid won’t close. (See why I would have been disappointed!)

Clearly the people at Playtex knew what I would find when I tested the new Diaper Genie Elite with the generic refill, but I didn’t. If I saw both items sitting on the store shelf, I would have totally bought the cheaper version. (Hello, it holds stinky diapers – I wouldn’t want to spend an extra dollar on the name brand.) But moms beware, sometimes the name brand is worth the extra dollar. Because I have a feeling that gap in the lid would start to make the room stinky, even with the new carbon filter.

The new and improved Diaper Genie Elite with carbon filter is now available. If you don’t want to replace your old Diaper Genie, spring for the carbon filter, you will be glad you did. And whatever you do, avoid the generic get the refill that fits!

$25 Spafinder Gift Card

What’s better than a fresh smelling nursery? A fresh nursery and a massage for mom! Through July 31, 2014 get a free $25 gift card to Spafinder when you purchase three Diaper Genie individual refills[2] in one transaction. Let Your Baby Decide With The New Playtex Nipple Variety Pack ~ Giveaway
May. 30, 2014

There are many crucial decisions moms make during their child’s life. Some are huge and monumental, while others only seem like they are huge and monumental at the time. During that first year when new decisions face moms around every corner, assistance in making at least a few of those decisions easier is a welcome relief.

I have blogged previously about my seemingly monumental decision to choose the right nipples and bottles[1] for my daughter as I stood in front of a wall of choices while registering for my firstborn. The simple task of choosing a bottle and nipple to register for quickly became so overwhelming that I nearly had a panic attack right there in the store.

There were so many options to choose from. I had read about nipple confusion for babies, and as I stood there I realized I had nipple confusion trying to make the best decision for my daughter.

On that day, I decided to skip registering for nipples altogether. Ultimately I enlisted the help of a veteran mom who calmed me down and helped me narrow down the selection. (Whew!)

But oh how I would have liked the new Playtex Nipple Variety Pack that I was introduced to through the Playtex Mom Trust Program[2]. I mean – genius!

Playtex Baby Nipple Variety Pack
The Playtex Nipple Variety Pack helps mom skip the trial and error process to give her baby the best feeding right from the start by offering four BPA-free nipples in different shapes and sizes to match baby’s unique preferences. With a wide range of nipples, all in one convenient package, moms can mix and match Playtex bottles and nipples for the perfect infant feeding combination.

Don’t guess; buy one package that has four types of silicone nipples to try! The Playtex Nipple Variety Pack includes:

  • Playtex NaturaLatch Nipple – With a standard surface area to mimic average nipple sizes, this nipple is most like mothers.
  • Playtex Breastlike Nipple – Slope of area around nipple mimics the breast.
  • Playtex Fullsized Nipple – Designed for wider mouths, the shape of the nipple mimics large size nipples.
  • Playtex Angled Nipple -The nipple’s angled design promotes semi-upright feeding.

All Playtex Nipple Variety Packs are available in slow, medium and fast flow and are compatible with Playtex VentAire and Playtex Nurser with Drop-Ins Liners bottles.

It’s been nearly seven years since I first stood in front of a wall of bottles and nipples fearing this seemingly huge task of choosing what was right for my baby. While we are past that stage, I am jealous of other moms who can avoid at least this seemingly huge decision by simply picking up a variety pack.

Unfortunately Playtex can’t make a variety pack for all of the decisions that lie ahead, but at least this decision can be made easily – get the variety pack and let baby decide what she/he likes best.

Playtex Nipple Variety Pack is available at Walmart, Target and Babies ‘R Us for a suggested retail price of $7.99.

Our Big Summer Of Fun

Our Big Summer Of Fun
Jul. 14, 2014

18 summers. I will never forget these words from the 2011 Disney Social Media conference[1].

“Our job as parents is to create memories. You can only do that by being together. You only have 18 summers with your kids. Make memories. Life is short,” Amy Foster, Director of Disney Destinations and Consumer Insight.

It became my rallying cry. My constant reminder to make the most of every day especially summers with my daughters. I must enjoy every moment because childhood doesn’t last forever[2].

Park Slide
A slight panic set in the other day when I realized that we now officially have more summer behind us than we do ahead of us. Where did summer go, and what happened to all of those things I planned to do?

But then I sat down to write this post about our summer as part of the Playtex Mom Trust[3] I made a list. I began to write down what we have done this summer. The list grew and grew, and as the list grew I realized that this summer I have done my job. We have created lots of memories in the past few months lots.

Minnie Mouse Shirts Outfits
Even though summer started in May, our big fun started in April. In just a few short months we have done all of the following:
  • We flew cross-country to take the girls to Disneyland for the first time
  • My girls were flower girls in my cousin’s wedding
  • We took our first road trip to Gulf County, Florida[4]
  • We had a last-day-of-school pool party (after a bus stop ambush[5])
  • We took our second road trip to Savannah, Georgia[6] for another wedding
  • We went to Cocoa Beach on Florida’s Space Coast
  • We went to the zoo, and fed the giraffes
  • We went to the Magic Kingdom with friends twice
  • We had a playdate at the park with lots of friends
  • We had a staycation at Bonnet Creek[7] and visited Hollywood Studios
  • We went to St. Petersburg Beach with the whole family for the 4th of July
  • We had a summer pool party
  • K rode in a race car[8]
  • We went back to Hollywood Studios for Frozen Summer
  • My oldest went to four day camps
  • My littlest is trying to potty train
  • We baked star cookies
  • We made lots of crafts
  • And many more memories like movies, playdates, the ice cream truck and more…
Bonnet Creek Lazy River Tube
Whew! So what’s left in these last few weeks of summer?

We have been invited to two birthday parties, cousins from both sides of the family are coming for visits, we have family pictures scheduled, there are still crafts to be made and I would like to visit Weeki Wachee Springs to see the mermaids before summer ends. Not to mention that there is lots of exciting back-to-school shopping to be done and meet the teacher events for BOTH of my daughters.

That’s right, next month I am sending my baby to preschool! (Hold me!)

The Suburban Mom
Somehow when I think about this summer it feels like it rushed by and we didn’t get a chance to do anything. But the reality is that it rushed by because we were busy doing so much!

18 summers, and this year we’ve done a good job.

New And Improved Spill Proof Sippy Cups From Playtex

New And Improved Spill Proof Sippy Cups From Playtex
Jul. 28, 2014

Sippy cups have been a staple in this house for the last six years, and I don’t see them going anywhere any time soon. Even my six year old still drinks out of a sippy cup from time to time. Sure, she is perfectly capable of drinking out of a cup and she does so when sitting at the table. But our evening routine includes milk on the couch before bed, and there’s no way I am letting my wild and crazy kids near the couch with a glass of milk.

Every mom knows that the most important feature of a sippy cup is that it must be spill proof that’s why we use them after all, right?! If you look in my cabinet you will see one brand over and over again – Playtex. I took a quick head count and counted eight Playtex sippies currently in rotation. Yep, lots of sippies in my house.

Clearly we are no stranger to Playtex cups. But it has been a while since I bought cups, and some improvements have been made to the cups. As part of the Playtex Mom Trust[1] I received the TrainingCups and AnyWhere Cups to check out the newest features.

Playtext TrainingTime Anywhere Sippy Cups
Both of my girls learned to drink from a sippy cup with two-handled Playtex training sippies before their first birthday. The new Playtex TrainingTime cups are an updated version of the older-style cups we love, and the improvements make they cup even better.

The first cool new feature is the removable handle, which is perfect for transitioning babies from two handles to no handles. When ready to transition to a bigger cup, your tot can learn with the same small cup they are used just without handles.

Another design improvement (perhaps my favorite) is the Twist ‘N Click. We have some other Playtex sippies with this feature, and I love it. Instead of screwing on the lid as tight as you think it goes, when you screw on a lid with the Twist ‘N Click a click lets you know that your lid is on tight. Trust me, when you are in a hurry this feature is fantastic. Click and good to go.

TrainingTime cups are 100% spill proof, but they don’t have a separate valve. Instead the spout piece (which is removable for washing) acts like a valve.

The 6 oz TrainingTime cups are available in both a soft sippy spout (our fave) or a straw depending on your child’s preference for babies four months old and up.

Once your little one gets a bit older, the next step up is the 9 oz Playtex Anywhere Cup. These contoured cups are available in Spout, Straw and Spoutless – also with Twist ‘N Click lids.

Playtex Anywhere Sippy Cup
The Anywhere Cup has an updated valve that looks a little different from the older ones, but it works just as well. Of course, the most important of all sippy cup features is that they must be leak proof, which both of these cups are. I made a short video to show off my favorite features.

When your babe gets even older, the next steps in the line of Playtex cups are the PlayTime (9 oz) and TravelTime (12 oz) cups, which are insulated for on the go. My girls are six and two, so at this stage these are the cups that currently line our shelves.

I am a fan of the updates that have been made to the Playtex line of cups, which continue to be the most used cups in our house.

Playtex cups are available at Walmart,Target, Babies “R” Us, Amazon, as well as local grocery and drug stores.

How I Keep Organized As A Mom

How I Keep Organized As A Mom
Mar. 31, 2014

It’s a busy world, and it seems everyone is multi-tasking their way through it. I fall into that trap often, and I say trap because for me, multi-tasking is the surest way to get nothing done. I start something, start something else, get caught up in something else, think I’m getting lots done because I began so many projects, and before I know it, the day is over and nothing has been finished.

It’s a busy world, and I can’t multi-task to make my way through it. Instead, I make use of timers, to do lists, and planners. Then, doing it one step at a time, I get through it. Organization is key, because if everything is where it’s supposed to be, and there is a spot for everything, it just makes life so much easier.

Tips To Help New Parents Stay Organized

  • Keep it simple. You don’t need every product marketed to parents, so just stick with what you need and what works for you.
  • Keep the most important products within reach, so when you need them you don’t have to hunt for them.
  • Return everything to its place after using (if you remember to- I had that mommy brain going on big time).
  • Ask for help when you need it, because we all need help and it’s ok to ask for it- no one can do everything alone!
  • Prioritize your time, because there will be a lot of demands on you, and there is one most important thing on your to do list as a new parent. Everything else has to be on the back burner for a while, but since you do have to do other things, remember that To Do lists are your friend!

If You Think All Diaper Pails Are The Same, You Got Another Stink Coming
By Penelope’s Oasis|May. 15, 2014|1 comment
If You Think All Diaper Pails Are The Same, You Got Another Stink Coming
May. 15, 2014

Our diaper days aren’t over yet, but the worst part is. Our second little guy is starting to be potty trained, so while there is an accident here and there necessitating pull-ups and a diaper pail, we don’t have lots of stinky diapers piling up like we did when they were newborns. And boy were they stinky!

We started parenthood not really knowing what was important to have, and being inundated with a lot of products that weren’t really that helpful once we actually had them, but looking back, a dedicated diaper pail was definitely a must have. In addition to it being more sanitary to quarantine the poop to its own receptacle, it was easier on our nostrils (that thing only stayed in one spot of the house, away from the kitchen and general living areas). Luckily, the diaper pail has come a long way, even in just a few years.

diaper genie elite carbon filter

The Diaper Genie Elite Pail with Carbon is a better than any diaper pail we had before for this most significant reason: it contains the odors better. The receptacle mouth where the used diapers go in separated from the compartment where they are stored by a clamp that opens and closes along with the lid by way of the foot pedal, so you aren’t overwhelmed by hours of smoldering diaper odors. A carbon filter inside the lid helps absorb rogue odors that may have escaped the main storage compartment, and because you can size the bags how you want, you can toss it after a particularly offensive episode, reducing costs and the overall P.U. factor.

The Diaper Genie Elite Pail splits open in the middle to make it easy to tie up, remove, and toss the current stash of soiled diapers, and the foot pedal makes for hands free use (kind of a must have when your hands were just touching poop).

diaper genie carbon

We tried the Diaper Genie Elite Pail with Carbon with the Diaper Genie refills, which features seven layers for odor protection. Unlike refills from our past, they are used like you’d think they would be – just pull the bag out and through the center, and tie the bottom. For some reason, we had to do some manual acrobatics with a few brands… why would something like this need to be complicated? We also tried the Munchkin Nursery Fresh refills, even though I didn’t think you could use other brands (it says on it that it’s comparable). I’m glad it’s available if it’s the only thing in stock in a pinch, but I tend to prefer items specifically branded and made to work together, because they usually work together better. The Diaper Genie refills fit into the Diaper Genie Elite Pail better and it was easier to close the lid (and since I don’t want any odors seeping out, I prefer a better fit).

From now until July 31st, 2014, when you buy any 3 Diaper Genie Refills at one time, you will also receive a $25 Spafinder Wellness 365 eGift Card. Snap a picture of the receipt and email or text it to dg@drvsusa.com by July 31 and you will receive a code and website to redeem your $25 eGift Card from Spafinder Wellness 365™!

And don’t forget to please join us for lots of parent tales, anecdotes, advice, and real product review at the Playtex Mom Trust[1]. I am happy to work with them this year to provide a supportive resource for new parents.

Find The Right Fit For Your Baby, Right From The Beginning

Find The Right Fit For Your Baby, Right From The Beginning
May. 27, 2014

One of the more challenging aspects of bottle feeding a baby is finding one that your baby will take to. You want something that mimics your own breast if your baby was nursed, so the transition is more comfortable, but we are all different, and so are our babies. For this reason, Playtex’s innovative new product, the Nipple Variety Pack, can be one of the best solutions for this frustrating problem.

The Playtex Nipple Variety Pack comes with four BPA free silicone nipples with distinct shapes, and all can be used with the Playtex Nurser and VentAire wide bottles. The four varieties include a breast-like shape, NaturalLatch, full-size with a wider mouth, and angled for upright feedings, and are available in various flow rates for various stages.

playtex variety pack

When you have the right bottle nipple, you know right from the start whether your child is rejecting the bottle, or actually just rejecting an uncomfortable nipple, and you can mix and match to make sure your baby is as happy and comfortable while feeding as possible.

I actually never bottle fed my sons, and the reason is because both hated the bottle. The truth is, I don’t know that the problem wasn’t just a wrong fit, because most babies find bottle feeding comforting if mom isn’t around, and the Playtex Nipple Variety pack wasn’t available a few years ago when I was struggling trying to figure out how to encourage my sons to bottle feed. It was an expensive process to try to find the right feeding system, but now it’s easier and more affordable. The Playtex Nipple Variety Pack can help take the confusion out of finding the right fit for your baby.

Win a Playtex Nipple Variety Pack – 5 Winners

Leave me a comment below sharing who you’d love[1] to win the Playtex Nipple Variety pack for- a new mom, someone you know who is struggling to transition their child to bottles, yourself? Five commenters will be randomly chosen to win.

Looking for more honest reviews, tips, and real stories from other moms who have been there and done that? Join us on the Playtex Baby Mom Trust facebook page[2]. I’m working with Playtex Baby this year to help bring you information about innovative new products that help parents and babies. Playtex knows babies.

When I Grow Up…. Beginnings Imagined

When I Grow Up…. Beginnings Imagined
Jun. 04, 2014

When a child is born, a world of potential is also. It’s amazing how far mankind has come, and how really anything that anyone can imagine is actually possible. Who would have thought, while watching the Captain communicate and look up anything he wanted via a pad-like gadget on Star Trek just fifteen very short years ago, that today we’d all be doing it with tablets?

Anything is possible. And with each new generation, more is becoming a reality, and it’s amazing. I want my sons to become whatever they want to be when they grow up. I am prepared to be the mother of the first Captain of the Star Ship Enterprise, or a man that farms and lives a simple life, as long as he is happy. They have as yet to express any interest in anything specific they’d like to be when they grow up, but along the way, each step of the way, as their minds wander and explore, I’ll be supporting them, letting them know that when it comes to learning, discovery, and creating, there are no limits.

Playtex is introducing Beginnings Imagined, and I’m so excited to help introduce it! Popular children’s illustrator Julie Olson created a work of art of our little one, Spanky (we are Little Rascal fans), that we love[1]:

Summertime Fun & Travel #MomTrust @PlaytexBaby
Jul. 14, 2014

We’ve been having one of the best summers, with activities every weekend, and daily days at the park. We’ve been to the aquarium, museums, jumped on trampolines, dined at great restaurants, and so much more. We made s’mores, created art on our sidewalks, and had tickle wars, and I’m grateful there is still plenty of summer left to enjoy before my oldest son starts “real” school (five already! how did that happen?? his fifth year of life already!)

June and July went by in a blur, and so far we….

s'mores-2

and it’s been so much fun :)

As a mom, as long as I have little juice boxes and snack containers, and keep my schedule organized, I’m able to keep the fun going. If I don’t, uh oh…hungry and thirsty kidlets, or missed appointments and late starts. I’m not a born organized mom, so I depend on to do lists and reminder alarms on my phone for everything. Thank goodness for gadgets and technology!

We are planning a weekend trip later this month into Manhattan for a weekend of touring our favorite city in the world, and until then, it’s more picnics and pirate treasure hunts. I’m exhausted, but the good kind of exhausted :) I love[1] connecting with other parents and sharing stories and tips as well, or simply getting more ideas on how to safely have family fun. You can find out how other parents are doing, share tips and support and more at Playtex Baby Mom Trust on facebook[2]!…I’m a contributor and will be sharing reviews and mommy moments, so come by, read, and share.

Now I just have to start organizing all those photos for the photo books…that will take me all autumn to do! How are you enjoying your summer? Any trips or summer fun with the family planned or happening already?

Less Spills, More Fun #MomTrust @PlaytexBaby
Jul. 28, 2014

My younger son is two, and while he is quickly learning to do a lot for himself (and insists he always be allowed to try), he still doesn’t always fully grasp the concept that leaping onto the sofa while holding an open cup can spill his beverage everywhere. He’s still shocked and yells “Mama, look!” everytime it happens, signalling me to come in with paper towels to clean up the mess.

playtex sippy cup

He isn’t ready for open cups yet. Unforunately, even many children’s beverage containers can be messy, so we wanted something spill-proof, and found it with Playtex’s Anytime Spill-Proof Spout Cups. They feature a twist’n click lid that prevents any fluids from leaking out, and Playtex has a full line so parents with younger and older children can have easier, less messy lives as well: the TrainingTime Sippy is children 4 months and older and comes with a removeable handle and a spout or straw, the Anytime Cup is for 9 months+ and comes with a straw, a spout, or spoutless, the Playtime Cup is for 12 months+ and the Traveltime Cup is for children two and older (looks like a tumbler and is suitable for older children who can handle drinks well usually, but maybe not through bumpy car rides).

playtex sippy cup-3

For us, the Anytime Spout Cups from Playtex are perfect, they encourage my son to ask for something to drink more often (because he loves them, both the colors and the sleek, easy to hold design), and we want him hydrated during the summer, and drinking down vitamins and electrolytes often, so we are happy to give him a cup whenever he asks. I also love[1] not accidentally slipping because he spilled some juice on the floor and didn’t realize it, or being called to the family room to find him pointing where he spilled milk all over the counch…I love that a LOT!

DIY Baby Shower Gifts in Celebration of Playtex Baby

We’re nearing the end of our baby fun as part of the Playtex Mom Trust Program[2]. As a Playtex Mom Trust Partner, we’ve covered tons of baby topics and reviewed lots of great Playtex products – from dealing with smelly diapers[3] to diaper bag essentials[4] to bottle and breastfeeding tips[5]. So I thought it’d be fun to celebrate all of this awesome baby-ness with a huge round-up of creative DIY baby shower gifts. (Many of which you can USE some of that Playtex Baby stuff in! *wink*) Check ‘em out…

Super Simple (& Unexpected) DIY Baby Shower Gifts

Consider Trusted Playtex for Your Baby Shower Gifts, Too!

Why go through the work of a DIY baby shower gift if you’re only going to use low-quality baby supplies? Make sure to use quality, trusted baby items for your crafting or for pairing with your DIY gift so the mew mom and baby can get the best use of it. For example, consider including some Playtex Nurser[6] or VentAire Bottles[7] in the cute Beverage Holder Baby Gift. The Nursers have convenient Drop-In Liners that are perfect for preventing tummy-troubling air bubbles and a clever adjustable angle to keep baby more upright during feeding. Or if mama isn’t into the drop-ins, she might like the VentAire (which I used for my first little one!) that also tout an angle for upright feeding but have a bottom venting system to help reduce air ingestion and colic.

My Breastfeeding Experience
My Breastfeeding Experience

Playtex Baby Disclosure

Dear Diary,

I almost didn’t breastfeed my baby. I contemplated ordering a bottle of formula from the nurses’ station at the hospital. I planned to breastfeed, but my breasts had a mind of their own. My colostrum came in slowly, and I worried if my daughter would starve. Looking back, I know she was perfectly fine and more concerned about sleep than food. But as a first time mom with a crying child in my arms with no one else in the recovery room, I questioned if I could provide enough nourishment for my little girl.

I wanted to nurse for one year, but I couldn’t even get through one night!

Determined to breastfeed, I asked for a hospital grade pump. And after what seemed like an eternity, I squeezed out a teeny tiny tablespoon that the nightshift nurse later forgot to refrigerate.

Hospital

I cried over spilled, or perhaps spoiled, milk. Then, a pediatrician recommended that I feed my daughter formula. For whatever reason, she didn’t recommend a lactation consultant! So, I pretended not to hear her and drowned out her voice with the humming of the motorized pump.

My milk eventually came down. I received coaching from a lactation consultant that visited right when I needed her, and my daughter mastered a proper latch.

For the next 10 months, I held my baby to my breasts. I never filled freezers with pumped milk and learned to ignore everyone who asked if my daughter received enough to eat. She gained weight, and I gained an unbreakable bond with her as well as several support bras, since my breasts began to deflate. When I underwent a surgery and had to take antibiotics, I stopped nursing. My daughter made a smooth transition to a bottle formula.

#ChocolateMilk_Final

At the time, I didn’t realize that I would one day advocate for breastfeeding. I wasn’t afraid of feeding in public, but I wasn’t the mom whipping it out for the world to see until my child was walking and talking either. But when I learned that African-American mothers lagged behind other races when it came to nursing our newborns, I had to do something about it.

CH-banner

Some moms didn’t nurse, because they didn’t have support. Others opted for formula, because they didn’t know enough about breastfeeding or didn’t feel comfortable feeding in public. So I reached out to every African-American mom blogger I knew to ask if they would write about their breastfeeding experiences–good or bad. They wrote about everything from allergies and ignorance to pumping and working. I wanted to curate this collection to educate other African-American women about breastfeeding. That way, they will be armed with information to make a decision. I’m super excited that Playtex Baby asked me to write about my feeding experience this month as I continue to share stories for their Moms Trust Panel, which like this series, offers tons of tips and support to new moms like me.

Hey DFTM Fam–What challenges did you face breastfeeding?

Happier Babies = Happier Moms @PlaytexBaby #MomTrust
Aug. 18, 2014

Happy babies make for happy moms, and colicky babies make for both unhappy babies and moms (and dads, and siblings) so many parents who struggle with a newborn with colic look for ways to reduce it and ease their baby’s pain. Playtex created bottle-feeding products designed specifically to reduce colic, and you don’t need to wait and see if your child has it. If you bottle feed your child at any point, why not try to prevent colic right from the start, with Playtex Ventaire Baby Bottles and Nurser Bottles with Drop-Ins?

123-3

Playtex Ventaire Baby Bottles are uniquely designed to reduce colic by way of a bottom vent that helps to reduce air ingestion, and an angled design to promote feeding in the proper, semi-upright position. Most bottles vent through the nipple, but the micro-channels in the VentAire vents keep air at the back of the bottle so virtually none is mixed in with the milk, or entering baby’s tummy.

playtex ventaire
playtex ventaire-2

Playtex also has Nurser bottles with pre-sterilized Drop-Ins liners which collapse while your baby is drinking to keep air out of the bottle and reduce colic. When your baby is done with a bottle, just toss the Drop-In liner and add a new one any time he is ready for the next bottle- very easy!

Both bottle designs work with any new Playtex nipple and both come with Naturalatch Silicome Nipples that mimic baby’s latch on the breast, so bottle feeding is easier and more comfortable from the very beginning. Both the Ventaire and Nurser bottles are also dishwasher safe (easier clean up) and leak proof (less mess), making mom’s life easier too.

My son wanted to show me he can insert the Drop-Ins himself, and spent a good ten minutes focused on his project… he sort of got it :) He’s only two, lol.

Stay Organized and Save Time with the Playtex Diaper Genie SmartCaddy

Stay Organized and Save Time with the Playtex Diaper Genie SmartCaddy
Feb. 14, 2014

As a Mom of a 6 year old and almost 1 year old twins, life can be chaotic. It seems like I’m always running around, upstairs and downstairs, from one room to the next. I am constantly telling my husband that I need to get organized. In fact, it was one of my New Year’s Resolutions but it’s February now and I’m not any closer to getting my house organized. But I’m a little more organized now when it comes to changing diapers thanks to the Playtex Diaper Genie Diaper SmartCaddy.

Olivia and SmartCaddy

Let me tell you, I spend A LOT of time changing diapers. Luckily it’s not like the early days anymore where I was changing over 25 diapers a day. We are down to about 12-14 diapers a day between both Olivia and Evie. Sometimes changing diapers can seem like a comedy {or a horror film!} for my husband and I. I’ll be in downstairs in the basement with the girls and I’ll need to change a diaper stat. I’ll yell for my husband to throw me diapers down the steps. Then, wait! I need some diaper cream! There have also been “emergencies” where the baby wipes have been downstairs and one of us has had to hustle down to bring them back up to their room.

You can probably tell by now that I’m pretty disorganized. I tried bringing diapers and wipes down separately, but the girls would just start playing with them and then I’d be finding diapers under the TV stand. With the Playtex Diaper Genie SmartCaddy, I can now be completely organized {and stylish!} when it comes to diaper changing in any part of our house.

Playtex Diaper Genie SmartCaddy

One of my favorite things about the Playtex Diaper Genie SmartCaddy is that you can use it as one large diaper caddy OR you can separate them into two which you can bet that I did! Now, I have one diaper caddy upstairs in their bedroom – or I can easily bring it into the living room – and then another that is strictly for the basement. It even has velcro straps if you want to strap it to something so it’s out of reach for curious babies.

The Playtex Diaper Genie SmartCaddy also has TEN pockets! Ten! That means I can stuff everything I would possibly need in the middle of a diaper change into the caddy. I’m pretty sure I can fit more into this diaper caddy than my purse!

Playtex SmartCaddy

You know how kids are able to pretty much get anything dirty? The Playtex Diaper Genie SmartCaddy is water resistant and easy to clean, so no worries if your new stylish diaper caddy gets dirty!

You’ll find the Playtex Diaper Genie SmartCaddy at Target[1] for $19.99. This is definitely going to be my new go-to shower gift for moms-to-be!

TEN readers will win a Playtex Diaper Genie SmartCaddy!

Diaper Changes: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly!
By Sippy Cup Mom|Feb. 17, 2014|0 comment
Diaper Changes: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly!
Feb. 17, 2014

When my son was younger, I can’t even tell you how many times we were asked when we would have another child. My husband would always answer, “When Hayden is potty trained! We don’t want two in diapers!”. It’s true that we really hated changing diapers – Hayden was a squirmer and a flipper and he used to take his diapers off all the time. Of course, it then took Hayden until he was almost 4 to be completely potty trained but soon after we decided we would start trying to have another baby.

Then we had two. I always laugh because my husband was SO adamant about not having two kids in diapers and now here we have two in diapers! In fact, it’s one of the first things my husband brought up when we found out we were having two and why we quickly decided we wanted to try cloth diapers. Over the past year, we have done a combination of cloth and disposables and it’s sure been interesting! Below I’ll tell you The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of our diaper changing experiences.

The Good

Twins-in-Flip-Diapers

One of the good things about diaper changes was how cute they looked in their cloth diapers! I love seeing their fluffy butts and chubby thighs, plus I could just throw a shirt on them and they would look so adorable.

It took us a little bit to get used to using cloth diapers but then we got into a good groove. When they were younger, we were changing about 25 diapers a day so using cloth was definitely a great investment for us. We liked using the Flip Diapers, which use an insert so you can change those several times before you have to change the actual cover. For cloth diaper newbies like us, this was a great option.

Another great thing is that almost a year later, we are diaper changing pros! I always have friends and family comment how fast I can change Olivia and Evie. We kind of had to learn how to change a baby so fast – especially when you have another baby at your feet waiting to be next!

Mom Tip: If you’re having multiples or more than one child in diapers, consider cloth! If cloth isn’t your thing, check out The Suburban Mom’s post on How Many Diapers Does a Baby Use in the First Year[1]? It’s a good look at how many diapers you might need for that first year and how you can save for it!

The Bad

While it’s true that we have become diaper changing pros over the past year, there’s been a few bad experiences. I’m not a fan of changing the girls when we are outside the house, especially if there isn’t a designated family bathroom. I always feel bad taking up so much room with my stroller and it can be a deal to juggle the girls in and out of their stroller. And if a store or restaurant doesn’t have a changing table? Then the fun goes to the car!

Twins-in-Pampers

Another bad part of changing diapers is when I have a naked baby in front of me with a dirty diaper and I realize I have no wipes or diapers with me. We have changed our girls in every room of the house and I have keep meaning to set up diaper changing stations throughout the house, which would make diaper changes go much easier without having to sprint to another room!

Mom Tip: To stay organized, check out the Playtex Diaper Genie SmartCaddy, which is a two-in-one caddy that will hold all of your diapering needs. You can place these caddys throughout the house so you’ll always be prepared! I’m giving away TEN of the Playtex Diaper Genie SmartCaddy so make sure to head over and enter[2]!

The Ugly

Oh boy. Luckily, I don’t have any pictures to show you of the ugly side of diaper changes with twins. There have been numerous leaks where my husband and I have had to change both their clothes AND our clothes. There have been diapers that were SO bad and have gotten everywhere that they have required an immediate bath. And there’s even been diapers SO bad that my husband has just given up and thrown away one of the girls sleeper. As he said, “there was just no hope to save it”. Yuck – glad I wasn’t home for that diaper change!

Mom Tip: My girls are busy bees and they always want to seem to twist and flip while I’m changing their diapers, inevitably getting their hands dirty. I’ve learned to have specific toys for them that they love but I only keep at the changing table or in my diaper caddy. That way, it keeps their hands busy and distracted while I change their diaper.

I want to hear YOUR diaper changing stories – the good, the bad and the ugly! Share in the comments!

Disclosure: I am a member of the 2014 Playtex Mom Trust Panel. I have been compensated for my time but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Keep Your Bottles & Sippy Cups Organized with Playtex {Giveaway}
Mar. 19, 2014

I’m not sure if I have ever shared how I came up with the name of the blog. I was sitting at my kitchen table and I had decided I wanted to start a blog. As I stared at the blank screen asking for the name of my blog, I looked around my kitchen. My counter was completely covered in sippy cups. My son and I had a slight addiction to sippy cups and we had A LOT. I sat back and though, I’m a Sippy Cup Mom! Over the past few years, I’ve had friends ask what will I do when my son outgrows sippy cups? I figured well, we would have another kid by then. Yup, we had twins which means DOUBLE the sippy cups!

Our favorite sippy cups are from the Playtex brand – since we are just transitioning Olivia and Evie from bottles to cups, I love the wide variety that they offer. But because we have been trying all kinds to see what they like, we have a lot of them. Luckily, Playtex understands that and offers great options to keeping your bottles and sippy cups organized.

Playtex SmartSpace Drying Rack

SmartSpace Drying Rack

The new Playtex SmartSpace Drying Rack[1] is intended for bottle drying but since we are using both, it’s become my go to spot for drying bottles AND sippy cups! The unique design uses vertical space so you’re saving counter space. Plus, if you don’t have a lot to dry, it actually breaks in two so you can use just one side of it. It also features an absorbent, microfiber, machine-washable drying mat – no more wet spots on the counter that you have to keep wiping up! It also has a side compartment to hold your little one’s utensils.

SmartSpace Drying Rack Half

Playtex SmartStand Universal Lid Organizer

SmartStand Universal Lid Organizer

If you’re like me, you may have lost a few lids to sippy cups a few times. A lot of those cups have converted into regular drinking cups for my son, but I’m determined to be be more organized this time around!

The SmartStand Universal Lid Organizer assembles in seconds with no tools required, you just snap it all together! It doesn’t take up hardly any space so you can have it in your cabinet next to your sippy cups or on the counter. It spins so you can easily find the right lid to a cup plus it’s designed to hold all Playtex™ cups and other sippy cup lids also.

Both the Playtex SmartSpace Drying Rack and the Playtex SmartStand Universal Lid Organizer are great additions to any household. I’m excited to be giving away both to TEN lucky readers!

Playtex Baby Makes Being On The Go Easy! #MomTrust
By Sippy Cup Mom|Apr. 07, 2014|0 comment
Playtex Baby Makes Being On The Go Easy! #MomTrust
Apr. 07, 2014

Spring is here and that means it’s time to get out an explore all that our city has to offer! There is just so much to do in St. Louis for families and we always have a good time. I’ve even started to make some trips out and about by myself – with a 6 year old and 1 year old twins! Evie and Olivia are in the process of transitioning from their bottles to sippy cups. When we decided to go out as a family a few weeks ago, I was so used to filling up bottles with water and then storing our formula in our Portable Formula Dispenser[1]. I was trying to figure out how we would keep our sippy cups of milk cold for the entire day of errands and fun as a family, when I happily remembered the Playtex™ SmartCool On-The-Go Bottle Tote[2] that was sent to me! I am SO excited to own this because it’s a simple bag that will come in handy for everyday use.

Playtex SmartCool Bottle Tote

The Playtex SmartCool On-The-Go Bottle Tote’s #1 feature is that it keeps bottles and sippy cups cool for up to 14 hours! That is major for me! There are sometimes that we are gone all day or on road trips. I love that we can easily keep everything cool in this one little bag. Another bonus is that I tend to sometimes forget about sippy cups and when I go to grab it the next day, it’s pretty disgusting. Since this will keep it cool for 14 hours, it can usually stay in the bag overnight making the cup or bottle easier for me to clean the next day.

My 3 kids are prone to spilling and the vinyl material makes it easy to clean – just wipe off with a damp cloth. That’s a big help in case you have something that spills inside. The tote comes with 2 full size removable freezer packs that are slim and easily fit into the tote – in fact, there are pockets they slip into so they aren’t actually touching the bottles or cups.

While the girls are only using bottles for naptime and bedtime, the Playtex SmartCool On-The-Go Bottle Tote will hold up to 3 standard bottles or as I have found out 2 big sippy cups! Plus, there’s a mini-storage pod that you can clip on to the tote for pacifiers or extra nipples.

I love that I have this bottle tote to keep the girl’s milk cold whether I’m shopping at Target or on a road trip!

Drinks Cold On the Go

Another great item for both at home and on-the-go is the Playtex™ SmartSpace Dishwasher Basket[3]. The dishwasher basket is a great spacesaver and has been THE place where I store all of our bottle nipples, sippy cup lids and valves, spoons and more! There’s no way you’re going to lose anything when you have this in your kitchen!

It’s also a great item for if you’re traveling out of town! We have a trip coming up to visit our in-laws for a few days and you bet I’ll be packing this. I like having a place where I know all of the parts are together so we know that we won’t lose them OR take over someone’s dishwasher.

Dishwasher Basket

We also sometimes will stay in a hotel with our kids. I am used to packing a small bottle of dishwashing soap to clean those sippy cups and bottles in the sink and it’s the perfect product to put everything in to let it dry and stay in one place.

Dishwasher Basket Open

Playtex as usual is thinking of us parents when they design these products to make life easier! That’s why I am so excited to be giving TEN readers the chance to win both the Playtex SmartCool On-The-Go Bottle Tote and the Playtex SmartSpace Dishwasher Basket!

Tips on Taking a Road Trip with Kids
Apr. 21, 2014

Before you know it, Summer will be here and that’s usually the best time to travel with kids! We already have a few road trips scheduled for this summer – Kansas City and Louisville – and we will be taking our big road trip in October to Walt Disney World. My husband isn’t a big fan of flying, so we always drive. Honestly, we have a lot of fun during our road trips and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Packed for a Beach Trip

We took Hayden on his first road trip when he was only 4 months old to Branson, Missouri. In the past 6 years, he has been on numerous trips and is now a road tripping pro. When Olivia and Evie were only 4 months old, we also took a road trip 12 hours away to Gulf Shores. Traveling with 3 kids vs. 1 kid was a lot different! Below are some of my road trips with kids tips!

road trip with kids tips

Buy a Portable DVD Player

We bought a portable DVD player four Hayden’s first trip to Walt Disney World and it was one of the best investments we have made. There are so many different kinds and we had one that strapped onto the back of a front seat. Popping in a Disney DVD saved us from many tantrums while on the road. When we bought our minivan, the biggest draw was the built in DVD player!

Visit the Library

We always visit the library a few days before our road trip begins and pick out DVD’s that Hayden has never seen before and also books that he hasn’t read before. Our library lets you check out up to SIXTY books, but we usually stick to about 10-15 books that I put in a reusable bag in the backseat. When Hayden starts to get antsy, I hand him a book and let him look through the book or read it to him from the front seat. This easily provides hours of entertainment! Our girls are both big book fans, so I know we will be hitting the library for plenty of books this summer. Make sure to sign up for your local library’s summer reading program so your little one can earn prizes!

Toddler in Car

Pack Snacks and Drinks

It always happens – you’re a few hours into your trip and your little one is hungry or thirsty. Instead of going through a drive-thru where you’ll obviously have to get an ice cream treat for yourself {no? just me?} or paying $2.99 for a small bottle of milk at a gas station, pack snacks and drinks at home! We love the Playtex SmartCool On-The-Go Bottle Tote[1], which holds 3 baby bottles or 2 sippy cups for up to 14 hours. Hayden can keep that next to his seat where he can easily grab his cups from it. It also has room for a baggie of apple slices or grapes.

You can also pack a bigger cooler with juice boxes, sandwiches, fruit snacks and more! You’ll save money and you won’t have to lose time while traveling.

Pack a Fun Bag

For Hayden, we always would get a big reusable bag {or backpack} and pack it with the library books we picked up earlier in the week and also small toys and activities from Target’s One Spot or the Dollar Store. This way, whenever he started getting antsy, we pulled out new to him books and toys and they kept him happy and occupied.

Be Comfy

Whenever we are headed on a road trip, I always wear my yoga pants, a tee and a cardigan so I can be comfortable and I’m in layers. The same goes for kids! I never have my kids wear jeans on trips – comfy pants and tees all the way! Slip on shoes are easier in case they want to take their shoes off in the car but easily slip them back on for bathroom breaks.

Just in Case Bag

I always make sure to pack a “just in case” bag. It’s filled with grocery bags for trash, a small first aid kit, baby wipes and cleaning wipes and an extra change of clothing just in case we need them!

I’d love to hear YOUR tips on how you make road trips easier with kids! Are you planning any trips this Summer?

Diaper Genie Elite Keeps a Room Smelling Clean: Diaper Genie Refills vs. Nursery Fresh Refills
May. 19, 2014

As a Mom of one year old twins, we go through A LOT of diapers. Not as much as we used to, but we still are changing about 10 diapers a day between the two of them. With that many diapers to change, I need to make the process as easy and as quick as possible. The biggest help for me? The Playtex Diaper GenieElite with Carbon Filter! It sits right next to our changing table and we even have another one in the playroom in our basement. Double the diapers means that things get literally get stinky fast, but luckily the stink is quickly eliminated once I put it in the Diaper Genie Elite.

It has the Ultimate Odor Lock System, a double-lock design that seals away odors each time you drop in a dirty diaper, for a fresh-smelling nursery. The activated carbon filter absorbs strong diaper odors and the antimicrobial protection helps fight germs and bacteria. Together with the Diaper Genie Refill bags that feature 7 layers to lock in the odor, you wouldn’t even know that there are two pails of stinky diapers in our house. Now only if we could do something about our dog!

I had the chance to check out both the Diaper Genie refills and the Munchkin Nursery Fresh refills for the Diaper Genie Elite. In my opinions, there’s a clear winner but let’s take a look at both of them!

Diaper Genie Refills vs. Nursery Fresh Refills

We have been using the Playtex Diaper Genie for over a year now and used it with my son when he was first born. I love how easy it is to use and how it keeps the odor in but holds a lot of diapers! The actual product itself is very sturdy and the bags are VERY sturdy. I had no worry of the bag ripping or tearing causing diapers to spill out. When I placed the Diaper Genie refill into the Diaper Genie, it snapped in so easily and fit perfectly. It securely fits in the Diaper Genie letting the lid close properly.

Diaper Genie Elite

Best of all? NO bad smell! It keeps that stinky odor in and you wouldn’t even know there were dirty diapers in our basement and the girls room.

I also had the chance to try out the Nursery Fresh refills which are made by Munchkin. It looks very similar but I have to admit I like the packaging better on the Diaper Genie – something picky, I know! The first thing I noticed was that it seemed a little flimsy. The blue bag was already popping out a little and when I felt the bag, it seemed very thin and I was worried it would tear! Like the Diaper Genie refills, it can hold an average of 270 diapers but I definitely don’t want that spilling all over my house!

When I placed the Nursery Fresh refill into my Diaper Genie, it didn’t feel as secure as the Diaper Genie refill and I felt like I had to keep pushing it into place to make sure it would stay when I put the lid down as well as force the lid down. As far as the smell, I did feel like it didn’t keep the odor in quite as well as the Diaper Genie refills and that is something that is very important to me with two in diapers!

Nursery Fresh Refills

The Nursery Fresh refills are cheaper than the Diaper Genie refills but in this case, I’m all about quality over saving a few bucks – and if you know me, I’m all about saving a few bucks!

1. Buy any 3 Diaper Genie refills in one transaction from May 1, 2014 to July 31, 2014.

2. Snap a picture of your receipt, email or text it to [email protected][1] by July 31, 2014.

3. Receive a code and website to redeem for a $25 eGift Card from Spafinder Wellness 365TM.

4. Enjoy some pampering for buying items you normally buy!

How do you keep the stink out with dirty diapers?

Find What is Right for your Baby with Playtex’s Nipple Variety Pack {Giveaway}
May. 27, 2014

When Hayden was born, we did a combination of breastfeeding and bottle feeding. I had no idea how lucky I was because he liked the very first bottles that we gave him and we never had to go through the frustration of switching bottle brands and nipple types. However, when Olivia and Evie were born…..that was a different story! Again, I did a combination of breastfeeding and bottle feeding but the girls did not like the first bottle brand that I gave them.

We weaned Olivia and Evie off the bottle a few months ago but when they were first born, we actually struggled for a few months to find the right nipple and for that reason, I wish we had been able to try out Playtex’s new Nipple Variety Pack. This is a brilliant product for new moms and is the first of its kind. The The Playtex Nipple Variety Pack features four BPA-free nipples in different shapes and sizes to match baby’s unique preferences.

Playtex Nipple Variety Pack

This one package will let moms mix and match Playtex bottles and nipples for the perfect infant feeding combination. The Playtex Nipple Variety Pack Includes:

Playtex NaturaLatch Nipple

- With a standard surface area to mimic average nipple sizes, this nipple is most like mothers.

Playtex Breastlike Nipple

- Slope of area around nipple mimics the breast.

Playtex Fullsized Nipple

- Designed for wider mouths, the shape of the nipple mimics large size nipples.

Playtex Angled Nipple

- The nipple’s angled design promotes semi-upright feeding.

You’ll find the Playtex Nipple Variety Pack at Walmart, Target and Babies ‘R Us for a suggested retail price of $7.99.

If you’re looking for a baby shower gift, this would be perfect to include with a variety of Playtex bottles. Any new mom {or not so new mom!} would love this! If you’re looking for more Playtex product reviews and tips from moms who have been there, done that, make sure to check out the Mom Trust Facebook page[1] for some great posts.

5 readers will win a Playtex Nipple Variety Pack!

Introducing the Playtex Baby Beginnings Imagined Program: Win a Custom Illustration! #MomTrust
Jun. 04, 2014

Time is going by so quickly. It’s hard to imagine that my son will be going into 1st grade this fall and that my girls are already 15 months old and walking all over the house – they are TODDLERS now! It really can seem like just yesterday that I was pregnant and dreaming about Olivia and Evie and how they would be. Would their personalities be similar or completely different? Would they look like me or my husband?

olivia and evie sleeping

15 month later, we can see that Olivia looks exactly like my husband and Hayden and Evie looks like….well, we aren’t sure! Their personalities are completely different and I love seeing them grow into these little people with their own likes and dislikes. As time goes by so quickly, I’m thankful for this blog so I can document their life in pictures and words.

Olivia and Evie Osh Kosh

All parents dream about what your child could become and Playtex is helping parents capture those hopes and dreams through the Beginnings Imagined program, where parents have the opportunity to win a bespoke illustration and story of what their little one could become and be entered to win a grand prize of a $5,000 scholarship to help them fulfill their dreams.

I was so excited when children’s book author and illustrator, Julie Olson took a picture of Olivia and Evie along with some facts about their personalities and created this gorgeous keepsake that we will treasure forever.

OliviaEvie9-10

I’ll always treasure this picture for capturing this special time in their life!

Now through July1st, moms and dads are invited to visit imagined.playtexbaby.com where they will be asked to answer a few short questions about their child and submit an image for their chance to win a custom illustration by children’s book author and illustrator, Julie Olson. All illustration winners will then be entered for a grand prize drawing of a $5,000 scholarship.[1]

Playtex Baby is always right there with me and my family as my kids grow. I’m so excited for their new Beginnings Imagined program and I hope you are too!

I am so excited that Playtex Baby is giving me the opportunity to give away a custom illustration to one lucky Sippy Cup Mom reader!

10 Diaper Change Tricks [From the Mouths of Moms]
Feb. 17, 2014

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Playtex Baby. All opinions are authentic and my own. Please see my disclosure policy[1].

Last week, as part of the Playtex Mom Trust Program[2], I shared my 6 essentials for a “perfect” diaper change[3]. (Did you enter the giveaway for the Playtex Diaper Genie SmartCaddy?! Quick – Go do that, and I’ll wait right here for you…) So I thought it’d be fun to check in with all of my experienced B-Inspired Blogger Mamas to see what their best tips and tricks are for a better diaper change. Here goes…

10 Diaper Change Tips & Tricks - From the Mouths of Moms - #Sponsored by Playtex - B-Inspired Mama

10 Diaper Change Tips & Tricks

  1. Hang Family Pictures on the Wall“Hang pictures of family or even some kind of art on the wall at baby’s eye level above the changing table. My kids always love looking at whatever I have hanging there.” Jennifer of Plain Vanilla Mom
    [4]
  2. Organize the Diaper Bag with Plastic Storage Bags“Gallon size plastic bags were excellent for organizing the diaper bag to keep everything clean and fresh. Then if I needed a bag for something dirty I always had one!” Sarah of Little Bins for Little Hands[5]
  3. Special Toys ONLY for Diaper Change Time – “Find a favorite small toy that they only get to have at diaper changing time.” Jennifer of Plain Vanilla Mom[6]
  4. Grab a Book“My babies love looking at small board books during diaper changes. I always had a few books that they were ONLY allowed to see during a diaper change – that helped the book keep their interest.” MaryAnne of Mama Smiles[7]
  5. Sing, Talk, & Get Silly“I alternate between singing a quiet song, making silly faces and playing peekaboo. Now that he’s over a year old I like to ask fun questions. We go through his animal sounds or body parts and that kind of thing.” Laura of Lalymom[8]
  6. Change Up the Mobile“We hung a simple mobile over the changing area that had clips on it so we could easily change out items. Even pretty packaging bows made it fun to look at while we changed his diaper!” Sarah of Little Bins for Little Hands[9]
  7. Communicate Transitions“We use our baby sign language signs for ‘all done’ and ‘come here’ when we are done with diaper changes. This lets our littlest one know she can jump and run.” Leah of Simple. Home. Blessings.[10][11]
  8. Strap ‘Em Down - “If they’re just too wiggly, make sure to keep them safe by strapping them down with the straps on the changing table. And I’ll let you in on a secret: when my toddlers went through a crazy squirmy stage, I’d even change them on the floor with one of my legs GENTLY draped over their middle to hold them down from running off. My family used to pick on me, but it worked and kept them safe!” Krissy of B-Inspired Mama[12]
  9. Consider It a Time for Connecting with Baby“It’s all about the art of distraction through songs, love, giggles, and interesting objects to hold. Most importantly to remember that [diaper changing is] a special time to bond with your little one.” Kim of The Educators’ Spin On It[13][14]
  10. Stay Calm, Mama!“My daughter was always a content kid so it really threw me for a loop when our son constantly fussed and squirmed during diaper changes. I have to remember to stay calm myself.” Laura of Lalymom[15]

Must Have Baby Items – Organization in the Kitchen

Must Have Baby Items – Organization in the Kitchen
Mar. 03, 2014

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Playtex Baby. All opinions are authentic and my own. Please see my disclosure policy[1].

What Are Your Must Have Baby Items?

Not the obvious ones; like diapers[2], wipes, and bottles. And more important than the cutely ones; like sweet onesies and tiny booties. I’m talking about the REAL must have baby items; the ones to help you keep all of that other stuff ORGANIZED! When all of that cute (and sometimes practical) stuff starts rolling in from those baby showers, you’ll need to find places for it all. And having a place for everything and a system of organization sure helps when that bundle of joy arrives and things get hectic, too. But we’re not all THAT mom. The one that has it all figured out before the baby comes. In fact, my youngest baby is now over two, and my system is still evolving…

Don’t Forget to ORGANIZE All of Those Must Have Baby Items!

One of the hardest places to keep organized for me has been in our small kitchen. We are beyond the baby bottle stage (with 3 kids ages 2 through 7), but we do still have one cupboard that spews out sippy cups and components nearly every time it’s opened. So when Playtex sent us their SmartSpace Drying Rack[3] and SmartStand Universal Lid Organizer[4], I was eager to give them a try.

Must Have Baby Items for Organization in the Kitchen + GIVEAWAY Sponsored by Playtex #MomTrustReviewUS at B-Inspired Mama

I know there is much debate about the safety of dishwashing plastics and many moms choose not to machine wash their kids’ bottles and cups. The SmartSpace Drying Rack should definitely be on those mamas’ must have baby items lists. I tend to be a dishwashing-dependent mama, but there are times when the kids’ cups just need a quick rinse in the day, and I’m loving the drying rack for keeping track of all of the components. It was easy-peasy to set up and has a handy handle on top for moving around my small kitchen.

And that “spewing cupboard” I mentioned before; that’s where the SmartStand Universal Lid Organizer comes in handy. Now check it out… only our Playtex must have baby items (although it WILL hold other brands, too) – nicely organized. Score!

Is Home Organization a Parenting Priority?
Mar. 24, 2014

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Playtex Baby. All opinions are authentic and my own. Please see my disclosure policy[1].

Parenting Priorities – What About Home Organization?

You may have noticed things slowing down just a bit at B-Inspired Mama over the last couple of weeks. I’ve definitely been struggling a bit lately with “balancing” my new-ish role as homeschooling mama[2] with my blogging and business role as “B-Inspired Mama.” So I’ve taken a (tiny) step back – but not a step away entirely – to sort out my priorities. Which of course I strive to always have my kids at the center of. Honestly, those priorities seem to shift and change often; sometimes hourly depending on my kids’ and family’s needs. Somedays it is homeschool planning, somedays it’s just snuggling on the couch. This weekend it was filling my own spiritual mama soul at Raising Generations Today[3]. But today’s parenting priority is HOME ORGANIZATION[4]!

Should Home Organization and Housework Be a Parenting Priority - One Mom's Plan at B-Inspired Mama

You Might Wonder: How Does Home Organization Relate to Parenting?

Well, I’m beginning to realize that chaos in MY kids is directly correlated to clutter in our home. The more disorganized and cluttered our surroundings, the more distraction and even defiance in my kids. And with recent diagnoses of sensory processing issues in Sawyer and J.C. (which I’ll tell you more about when the time is right), this is even more an issue for us. I’m not saying that housework should be a priority for you and your kids. I think it depends on your family and your kids. And I’m definitely NOT saying that I will make it a priority everyday, all the time. But TODAY. My priority for just TODAY is to get organized! [5]

Here’s My Organization Plan for TODAY:

  • Get it Outta Sight – Our counters, tables, and desks are always full and cluttered. It’s visually distracting and has led to a toddler who is continuously pointing and begging for another snack or object that he just cannot have. I have GOT to get stuff out of sight and in a home in a container or cupboard. And to do that I will first need to…
  • De-Clutter & Donate – I’ve got a big box perched on the kitchen counter to toss in items to be donated. If it hasn’t been used in months, it’s going in the box. PERIOD.
  • Use Room Bins – Once I’m down to the items that are keepers, I plan to set up bins for each room. Then each item will go in it’s respective “Room Bin” and Room Bins will be taken to their respective rooms.
  • The Big Put-Away – Then I’ll focus on one room at a time and find a home in that room for everything in the “Room Bin.”

Does that organization plan make sense? Well… I’m off to get started. I’ll let you know how it goes! Make sure to stop by the Playtex Baby Facebook Page [6]for more home orgranization from more Playtex Mom Trust Program[7] Moms.

Diaper Bag Essentials – MINUS the Diaper Bag

Diaper Bag Essentials – MINUS the Diaper Bag
Apr. 14, 2014

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Playtex Baby. All opinions are authentic and my own. Please see my disclosure policy[1].

What are the True Diaper Bag Essentials?

Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of diaper bags. They’re big and bulky and always in the way. Especially when you get to baby #2, #3, or more. There just aren’t enough hands and arms to carry a big diaper bag and my purse. So I usually combine the two. I’ve done it differently at different times over the years, but I often have a well stocked diaper bag in the car and just grab the diaper bag essentials and toss them into my purse. Now Playtex has given me an even better idea…

B-Inspired Mama's Diaper Bag Essentials - MINUS the Diaper Bag

Keep the Diaper Bag Essentials in One Small Tote!

I can use my new Playtex SmartCool On-The-Go Bottle Tote[2] for just the essentials. Then just grab it, toss it in my big mama purse, and skip the diaper bag. What are my diaper bag essentials, you ask?

  • Bottle or Sippy Cup with Milk – I always make sure to have milk in my toddler’s sippy cup when we’re out and about because it will fill his belly a bit more than water and juice if he’s a little hungry in the middle of a shopping trip. So the insulated bottle tote is perfect for keeping it cold and fresh.
  • 2 Diapers and Travel Package of Wipes – I love those little travel packages of wipes that often come as freebies with diapers or bigger boxes of wipes. And I’ve learned the hard way to ALWAYS carry TWO diapers one loses a tab during application!
  • Teether/Pacifier or Small Toy – Depending on the ages of the little one, it’s always a good idea to carry along their favorite teether or small toy. And the little clip on pouch for the Playtex Bottle Tote is a perfect spot for that.

And for older toddlers and young kids…

  • A Package of Twist-Up Crayons – Never leave home without a package of crayons, Mamas of toddlers! They offer instant entertainment on the doctor’s office table paper and restaurant placemats. And little ones who are too young to draw well still love to watch mama draw funny pictures.
  • A Lollipop – Use your best judgement on at what age a lollipop is appropriate, but don’t underestimate it’s use for distracting antsy or upset kids in a pinch.

I love that all of it fits perfectly into that little tote. Our milk stays cold with the flexible freezer packs. And all the extras slide right into the many pockets on the outside. Then when we get home, I toss my bottle, sippy cup parts, and even my dishwash-able toys and teethers right into my Playtex Smartspace Dishwasher Basket[3] for a thorough cleaning to be ready for the next trip.

Dealing with Diaper Change Smells

In the past, I’ve shared some diaper change tricks[2] and diaper change essentials[3] that I’ve learned throughout the baby stages with my three littles. But what about AFTER the diaper change? You know – to help with the not-so-pleasant diaper change smells? Here’s my best advice….

Conquer the Diaper Change SMELLS with a Diaper Genie!

I don’t often focus on just ONE product in a post here at B-Inspired Mama, but I am today. Here’s why… Even before joining the Playtex Mom Trust Program[4], the infamous Playtex Diaper Genie has been tops on my list of must have baby items[5]. I’ve depended on a Diaper Genie through three babes to keep those diaper smells at bay and LOVE it! So although I already have our trusted Diaper Genie parked in our bathroom, I was thrilled to get a new Diaper Genie Elite Diaper Disposal System from Playtex to try out.

Why Do I Love the Diaper Genie?

  • It looks good anywhere! Its sleek white design fits in anywhere. When my babies were tiny, I would keep it right by the changing table in the nursery, so I could toss it in before carrying baby away. But now that my littlest is a toddler, I keep ours in the bathroom.
  • It’s hands-free! Just step on the little lever and the lid pops right open. All hands on baby!
  • It locks smells in! A mechanism inside drops the diaper down, out of sight, and locks the smells inside the bag as soon as the lid closes.
  • Diaper Genie refills are easy to change! Theirs a little (child-safe) built-in cutter to make cutting and retying the plastic bags simple. And the new refills drop right in. Easy peasy!

What Makes the Diaper Genie Elite Better?

I’ve always been satisfied with how my Diaper Genie locks in odor. But if I’m being honest, there have been the occasional bombers that even the Diaper Genie can’t seem to contain. But the new Diaper Genie Elite[6] has “Ultra-Fresh Antimicrobial Protection” built right into the plastic and a really cool odor absorbing Carbon Filter under the lid that seems to take care of any crazy smells that my kids make!
